Norton scale

Gale Ann Norton (born in 1954) is a political woman American, the first and the 48e secretary inside of the the United States, of 2001 with 2006 in the government of George W. Bush.

Biography

Born the March 11th 1954, Gale is graduate in right of the university of Denver, in the Colorado.

Norton began a public career as a lawyer with Washington, D.C for the department of the interior then for that of agriculture.

At the end of the Seventies, Gale Norton is member of the Parti Libertarien of which it becomes national director in 1980. It is associated with many liberal organizations and environmentalist.

Of 1991 with 1999, Norton is Attorney General (Minister for justice) Colorado.

In 1996, it is candidate with the primary educations of the Republican party for the station of Senator of the the United States but is isolated with the profit of the congressman Wayne Allard, partly because of its convictions favorable to the right to the abortion (pro-choice).

In 2004, the secretary inside Gale Norton is had a presentiment of like possible candidate for the senate of the United States in its state of the Colorado. However it gives up to contribute and the seat is gained by the democrat Ken Salazar.

Gale Norton is confirmed again at its post of secretary inside after the second presidential victory of George W. Bush in November 2004.

The March 10th 2006, it announces its intention to resign of its post of minister of the Interior. In its resignation letter, of which the contents partially were delivered to the media, she explains why she will join the private sector at the end of the month. The March 16th, George W. Bush names Dirk Kempthorne to succeed to him.
