The Northern Ferrovie Milano or FNM are a Railway company Italy of private statute ensuring part of the service roads Banlieue of the Agglomération of Milan.

History

The history of Northern Ferrovie Milano starts at the end of the 19th century when was inaugurated, the March 22nd 1879, the line Milan - Saronno. The December 31st of the same year was also opened with the tafic the line Milan - Erba.
The process of electrification started in 1929 and was completed in December 1953.

Exploited network

The rail network exploited by the FNM includes/understands approximately 400 km of lines with normal way,

With these lines is added the service road of the international Aéroport of Malpensa. All the lines, except for Saronno-Seregno, exploited only for the goods traffic, and of Brescia-Edolo, are electrified in D.C. current 3000 V.

The deposit and the workshops are located at Novate Milanese, to 8 km of Milan, on the Milan-Saronno line, for the Milanese network, and in Iseo for the network of Brescia.

Services

This company exploits services travellers at the beginning of Milan bound for Laveno, Like, Novare and ESA, like, since May 1999, the new connection with the airport of 11,2 km Milan-Malpensa (long, electrified, between Busto-Arsizio and Malpensa. This service, Malpensa Express train, share of the station of Milan-Cadorna. The way lasts 40 min. It also exploits the line known as “busy ferroviario”, line crossing the center of Milan in underground, kind of the RER Milanese to given rhythm service road.

The park of rolling stock

The park of rolling stock includes/understands 15 electric Locomotive S, 7 Diesel locos and 65 oars TAF motorized electric Breda - Ansaldo.

The group

The group “Northern Ferrovie Milano SpA” is the second Italian railway company after FS. Of private statute, Public limit company by action S, its Capital is held in majority by the area Lombardy (58%) and the Ferrovie dello Stato, state railways Italian (15%).

The group diversified its activities through many Filiale S:

  • management of the network of the FMN: Northern Ferrovie;

    • on Road: Northern Ferrovie Milano Autoservizi (200 buses and 10 million annual bus-km),

  • service road Airport uaire: Malpensa Express train,
  • air transport (Helicopter S) and observation of the territory: AvioNord,
  • Engineering of transport: Nord_Ing,
  • telecommunication and energy: NordCom (joint venture with Telecom Italia) and Northern Energia (joint venture with Azienda Elettrica Ticinese, Swiss producer of electricity of (Tessin).
