Northern (locomotive)

Northern is a type of Locomotive to vapor whose axles have the following configuration (from the front to the back):

  • 2 axles carrying on a Bogie

  • 4 driving axles
  • 2 axles carrier on a bogie or in Bissel

What is written:

  • 4-8-4 in Whyte coding.
  • 242 in coding of continental Europe.
So in Spain for the Europe the type was relatively widespread, in France only two networks made construirent such machines, and still in version tender, and the SNCF made as for it build only one promising prototype but arriving too late. As regards the 242 T it acted of heaviest, fastest and the most powerful machines of this type in Europe.
