North Dome
North Dome is an exploitation site Offshore of Natural gas located at the border of the Iran and Qatar in the Persian Gulf. Discovered as 1975, it is acted of the largest natural layer in the world.
Description
It belongs to the system Paléozoïque which extends on a good part of the the Middle East, whose rocks sources are Schiste S sailors siluriens. It is placed in a dome Anticlinal enormous, visible on a geological cut on a continental scale.According to the figures of EIA/DoE, North Dome contains 24.3 gas Tm3; its northern part, depend on Iran under the name of South Leave, would contain 8 Tm3 additional. The unit represents approximately 200 giga oil equivalent barrels, that is to say more of the double of the largest known oil reservoir, Ghawar.
The government qatari announced to want to moderate the exploitation of North Dome so that the production can last one century. That could result in reducing some of the projects in progress. Even thus, North Dome will become in the long term a pillar of the world energy supply, feeding at the same time the local market of natural gas, exports of Natural gas liquefied, vast a petrochemical Industrie and the production of Syncrude.
