The Dakota-of-North (English: North Dakota ) is a State of the north of the the United States, bordered in the west by the Montana, in North by the Canadian provinces of the Saskatchewan and the Manitoba, with the east by the Minnesota and with the south by the Dakota-of-South.

History

The name of the State comes from the tribes Dakotah . Dakota-of-North is the 39e State since November 2nd, 1889.

It is very difficult to know which Dakota-of-North or Dakota-of-South was integrated in first since the signature took place the same day. President Benjamin Harrison always refused to indicate the order in which it signed. However the proclamation was carried out in first for Dakota-of-North (as a first alphabetically. Also it is indicated before the Dakota-of-South by the majority of the sources. But according to very rare documents Dakota-of-North would have signed before the Dakota-of-South.

Geography

Located in the Large plains, the area is relatively plane. However, the Western part is undulating by the White Butte, not culminat State and Badlands, this solid mass being the subject of a national park, the National park Theodore Roosevelt. The Missouri enters the State by the Western border and out of spring by the Southern border. the Red River runs along the border Is.

Of a surface of 183  022 km ², Dakota-of-North are populated of 636  677 inhabitants (2005).

Climate

Dakota-of-North is an excellent example of climate of the continental type. The summers are hot and wet. The storms are frequent during the summer period, being able to lead to Tornade S, especially in the South-eastern quarter of the State.

Contrary, the winters are very cold and dry, sometimes windy. Of severe snowfalls (blizzard) make their appearance during spring or the autumn.

Demography

North Dakota one of the States the is less populated of the country. Only the Vermont and the Wyoming are populated. It is also a State or the population density is very low. The rare urban centres are disseminated along the rivers traversing the area.

Policy

Dakota-of-North is a preserving State, rather republican.

Since 2000, the governor of Dakota-of-North is the republican John Hoeven.

At the local level, during the legislature 2007-2008, the two rooms are dominated largely by the republicans (61 republicans against 33 democrats with the Lower House and 26 Republican senators against 21 Democratic senators with the Upper House).

At the national level however, the two senators, Kent Conrad and Byron Dorgan, are democratic just like Earl Pomeroy, the single elected official of the State to the room of the representatives.

At the time of the two last presidential elections, the inhabitants of Dakota-of-North voted by plebiscite the republican candidate George W. Bush with 60,6% of the voices compared with 33% with Al Gore in 2000 then 62,8% of the voices compared with 35,5% with John Kerry in 2004.

The democratic victories with the presidential election in this State are very rare and the last goes back to 1964.

Economy

The economy of the State depends primarily on agriculture. Several types of cultures are practiced, like the Blé (especially of the durum Wheat for the clothes industry of the pastes), the Orge, the Colza, the Soja, or the flax. Along the Red Rivière of North agriculture is directed more towards the Beet sugar, the Maïs and the Soja. There is also a small production of Miel, Amélanchier and Raisin. With regard to the cattle, the Ranch S producers of meat are more common in the south-west of the State, and the dairy exploitations are generally gathered in the East.

Industry is slightly developed. One can all the same quote the hydro-electric production of energy, the transformation of the food products and the exploitation of the mines of Lignite.

Culture

Dakota-of-North would have the characteristic to have a majority of population of stocks German and Norwegian.
