Norodom Sihamoni , born the May 14th 1953 is the king of the Kampuchea since the October 14th 2004. He was elected unanimously by the Conseil of the crown to succeed his father Norodom Sihanouk, who had announced his abdication the preceding October 7th.
He is wire of the last wife of king Sihanouk, the queen Norodom ''' Monineath ''' Sihanouk (born Paule Monique Izzi the June 18th 1936, of a French father of Italian origin and Kampuchean mother), wife of the former king since April 1952. The name of Sihamoni is resulting from the contraction of Siha nouk and Moni neath .
Norodom Sihamoni was educated in France. Most of its family lived in particular and makes its studies with Prague. Enthusiastic French-speaking person, it tests himself with poetry and the music, like his father in his time. Although had a presentiment of, it proved to be the heir only at the time of the last months of the reign of his father.
The French-speaking press, after having evoked the fact that the new king, set on ballet dancing, is unmarried and without children, discreetly reported that certain subjects of the new monarch regretted only that it is “unmarried with the manner of Jean-Claude Brialy”, according to an elegant periphrasis forged by his/her own father. In April 2006, Norodom Sihamoni paid a visit in North Korea, with which the Kampuchea drew up close links under the reign of Norodom Sihanouk.
