Norman Spinrad , born the September 15th 1940 with New York, is an American author of Science-fiction . He lives since several years with Paris.

Biography

Norman Spinrad was born in 1940 in the Bronx from New York where it passes its childhood. In 1957, it enters to the City College off New York where it off obtains in 1961 a Bachelor Science.

During its last year of study, it follows courses of writing of news and subjects its first stories to various magazines. Its first text, The Last off the Romany is published in 1963 by the Magazine Analog .

He works then like editor, while continuing to publish news regularly. Its first novel, The Solarians , is published in 1966, year during which he moves with San Francisco, then with Los Angeles and finally with London.

Of 1980 with 1982, he is president of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers off America (he will be again named president of this association in 2001 - 2002). It is in 1982 that Spinrad sells the rights filmographic of its novel Jack Barron and Eternity ( Bug Jack Barron ) with Universal Pictures (the film was finally never carried out).

In 1988, Spinrad still moves for Paris, where he writes his novel Russian Spring ( Russian Spring ), with his/her partner, Nancy Lee Wood (also writer) which he marries in 1990.

Spinrad is an author of atypical novels based on sulfurous topics. It publishes in its career about thirty novels, two Anthologie S and four collections of Nouvelle S. For the anecdote, it also wrote the scenario of an episode of the second season of the series Star Trek entitled The Doomsday Machine ( the Explosive device French ).

At the time of its prepublication in the British magazine New Worlds at the end of the Sixties, this novel raised a real scandal in the United Kingdom, so much so that it was evoked by the deputies with the House of Commons.
