Norman Foster , Baron Foster off Thames Bank, OM (June 1st 1935, Manchester) is a British Architecte . Emulate Buckminster Fuller, Foster is one of the principal representatives of the Architecture high-tech with inter alia Richard Rogers.
Biography
Norman Foster leaves the school at the 16 years age to enter the working life, then to carry out its military service in the Royal Air Force. It follows courses of architecture and Urbanisme to the Université of Manchester, while working to finance its studies until obtaining its diploma in 1961. A purse post-diploma is decreed to him, which enables him to go to the the United States where it obtains the following year a master' S dismantles structures about it with the Université Yale. Foster binds friendship with Richard Rogers and benefits from its stay on the other side of the Atlantic to visit works of the architect Frank Lloyd Wright. In 1963 it founds the cabinet, in company of Rogers and their respective wives, Wendy Cheesman Foster and Su Rogers. The project of the Reliance factories, located at Swindon, enables them to pose the bases of architecture known as {{foreign quotation|High tech}}, which will be thereafter the trademark of Foster and Rogers. 1967 mark the separation of, Rogers works then with Renzo Piano, while Foster assembles with his wife the cabinet, today renamed. It works out itself the plans of this cabinet located at London in 1972, then of a second in 1981. Starting from 1968 Foster assists the architect visionary Richard Buckminster Fuller in his theoretical work, of which the project of Autonomous House . Today the cabinet counts more than 500 collaborators and employees, of the agencies with London, Berlin and HongKong, and treats several tens of important projects per annum. The cabinet also carries out signed furniture and projects of installation and interior decoration. Norman Foster supervises the projects and guides its teams, but taking into account its age and of the size of the company it cannot be invested any more personally in the details of each building.
Rewards and distinctions
Norman Foster enjoys a world famous and gained more than 300 rewards and outstanding commendation award throughout the world, and more than 60 victories in national competitions and international. As example, it receives the gold medal of the RIBA in 1983, the gold medal of the French Academy of architecture in 1991 and the gold medal of the institute of the American architects in 1994. Finally in 1999 the Prix Pritzker, which rewards the greatest creators, is decreed to him. Very implied in the London architectural world, Norman Foster is member of the Royal College off Art, of Royal Institute off British Architects (RIBA), of Architecture Foundation off London and vice-president of Architectural Association in London.
In 1990 it is named knight, then decorated with the Order of Merit in 1997, and finally created even of the United Kingdom, receiving the title of baron Foster off Thames Bank, off Reddish in the County off Greater Manchester in 1999.
