Norman Davies
Norman Davies , born on June 8th, 1939 with Bolton, is a British historian, specialist in the the United Kingdom and Poland.
It made its studies in Magden College of the Université of Oxford, with the Université of Sussex, Grenoble, Perugia, then with the Université jagellonne of Cracow. Its thesis of doctorate of 1972, which was to carry on the Russo-Polish Guerre, becomes under request of the communist authorities, a thesis on the relations between Poland and the United Kingdom. From 1971 to 1985, he is professor with the Université of London (School off Slavonic and East European Studies). He is since Supernumary Fellow with the Wolfson College of Oxford. Its works were sold clandestinely in Poland in the Années 1980.
He lived with Cracow, where he married. Acknowledged “Polonophile”, Norman Davies is member of honor of the Association of risen of Warsaw (Związek Powstańców Warszawskich), knight of the Ordre of Saint-Stanislas, Honorary doctor of the Université of Warsaw, of that of Lublin, that of Wrocław and Gdańsk.
Of return in Western Europe, he worked for the chain BBC, The Independent , The New York Review off Books , or The Times .
Among his the most known works, one can quote Powtania 44 (in English, Rising “44 ) on the Insurrection of Warsaw, or Boże igrzysko (History of Poland in 2 volumes).
