Normalized (opera)

Norma is a opera in two acts of Vincenzo Bellini, on a booklet of Felice Romani, according to the tragedy of Alexandre Soumet. He was created the December 26th 1831 with the Scala of Milan.

The action proceeds in Gaulle under the Roman occupation, and exposes the intrigue in love which binds Pollione , Roman proconsul with Norma , its former partner, and with the young person Adalgisa . With this intrigue, rising mingles with the Gallic people against the occupant, carried out by the Druide Oroveso .

Normalized, large druidic priestess of the temple which had (breaking its vows of chastity) two children of Pollione, Roman proconsul, discovers that it is in love with a young priestess, his Adalgisa friend. Normalized tent to convince it to give up Adalgisa and to return to him, but he refuses. Normalized then acknowledges publicly its fault and is condemned to death. Pollione is condemned to have continued Adalgisa in the temple and goes up to roughing-hew with Norma.

The title role of Normalized is regarded as one of most difficult repertory of the Soprano S. the professional singers Rosa Ponselle, Maria Callas, Joan Sutherland and Montserrat Caballé has, at the 20th century, marked of their interpretation this role which requires at the same time a great lyric technique and qualities of tragic actress. To date large the holders of the role are rare. The soprano Armenian Hasmik Papian passes to be one of the best current interpreters about it. Normalized was also interpreted by June Anderson, an American singer and recently in 2007 per Diana Croitoriu-Schydlowsky, a Rumanian singer.

The air of Normalized, Casta Diva , is one of most known lyric repertory.
