The norite is a igneous Roche intrusive mafic which contains mainly Plagioclase rich in Calcium, labradorite and hypersthene with Olivine. It is very difficult to distinguish norite from the Gabbro without passing by a fine analysis under the petrographic microscope.

Norite, as well as the gabbro and other mafic rocks and ultramafic S, is presented in intrusive layers often associated with the platinum ores, for example in South Africa, in the complex of Skaergard to the Greenland, and the complex of Stillwater in the Montana (the USA).

Norite constitutes also the basic igneous rock in the complex of the basin of Sudbury (Ontario), which comes from the impact of a meteorite and represents the vastest nickel mine field in the world. One very frequently finds norite in the samples of moon rocks brought back by Apollo.

On a less scale, one also finds norite in small formations located like the norite of Gombak with Bukit Gombak, Singapore.
