Hydrology

Norges is a rather abundant river, like the majority of the rivers of the basin of the Saone. Its flow was observed during one 45 years period (1963-2007), with Genlis, locality very close to its confluence with the Tille. The catchment area of the river is there of 264 km ² is it quasi totality of this one.

The interannual medium flow or module of the river with Genlis is of 2,73 m ³ a second.

Norges presents seasonal fluctuations of flow marked enough, with one period of winter high waters characterized by average monthly flows going from 4,16 to 5,55 m ³ a second, from December to March included (with an in February maximum). As of at the end of March the flow decreases slowly to lead to the period of the low waters which proceeds July at September included, bringing a fall of the monthly medium flow going up to 0,502 m ³ to August. But the fluctuations of flow can be much more important according to the years and over shorter periods.

With the low water level the VCN3 can fall until 0,089 m ³, in the event of dry quinquennial period, that is to say 89 liters a second, which can be described as severe. But this case is frequent in the area (see note).

The risings can be rather important. The QIX 2 and QIX 5 or calculated flows of biennial and quinquennial rising are worth respectively 20 and 31 m ³ a second. The QIX 10 or calculated flow of decennial rising is of 38 m ³ a second, the QIX 20 of 45 m ³, while the QIX 50 is assembled to 54 m ³ a second (see note).

The recorded maximum instantaneous flow with Genlis during this period, was of 53 m ³ a second on October 1st, 1965, while the recorded maximum daily output was of 45,6 m ³ a second on February 27th, 1970. If one compares the first of these values on a QIX scale of the river, one notes that this rising was of order cinquantennal and thus relatively exceptional.

The Lame of water past in the catchment area of Norges is of 328 millimetres annually, which is equivalent to the overall average of the France all basins confused, but definitely less low than the average of the basin of the the Saone (501 millimetres in Lyon). The specific Débit of the river (or Qsp) consequently posts the figure of 10,3 liters a second and per square kilometer of basin.
