The nordicity is the characteristic of what is geographically Nordique . More generally, it carctérise cold zones of the Northern Hemisphere, including/understanding countries the such the Scandinavian Canada and countries , which live same the Saison S and about same the Climat S. the concept of nordicity seeks to look at overall the human company S in their adaptation to North. Just like there are several ways of living there, one finds different nordicities .

History

Beyond its variable significance according to its country of origin, the notion of nordicity or the Northern evolved certainly /moved much, the civilizations come from the Southern including/understanding only very slowly the companies indigenous S of North (and vice versa), as the Inuit S which have an old woman Tradition adapted to the Far North . The concepts of nordicity are also particularly prone to the changes, at this beginning of 21e century, where the areas Circumpolaire S are the first targets of the Climate changes.
  • the term is created with the Quebec by the Géographe and Linguiste Louis-Edmond Hamelin, in the beginning of the the Sixties, wanting to even adapt by the fact, as Québécois, the Scandinavian qualifier of , still employed today to speak about the Scandinavian Pays of Europe. In 1976, it founds its index of nordicity .

  • In 1991, the Member States of the Scandinavian Council unite, with the Russia, the the United States and the Canada, with the Arctic Conseil, to concentrate itself on the problems of Environnement and the problems of the populations autochtones.

  • From February 2nd to 5th 1999, with Quebec, was held the World summit of the nordicity with several lecturers and exhibitors. The covered topics were the Transport S, the Communication S, the Social organization, the habitat, the urban lighting in Scandinavian medium, the Environnement and the Tourisme. Indices of nordicity

In Canada

It is from the point of view of Northern relative that Louis-Edmond Hamelin proposed, in 1976, a system of ten complementary indices, called polar values or vapos , to measure the nordicity of various points in the north of the 50e Parallèle. For a Geographical point given, six vapos measures Phénomène S Nature ls and four vapos measures the Human activity:
  • the Latitude (determining the Photoperiod),

  • the average of Temperature in be,
  • the nuelle average Year of temperature,
  • types of Ice,
  • the annual Precipitation,
  • the type of Vegetation,
  • accessibility by Terrestrial way or maritime,
  • accessibility by air Route,
  • the Population and
  • the degree of Economic activity

The nap (or the Average ) of these indices gives us the index of nordicity , going from zero to extreme. Though one can allot the maximum value (100 or 1000, according to the scale) to the index of nordicity of the North pole, the of the same points index of nordicity do not have all same the Latitude and the index varies during time. The index then enables us to trace contours of different nords, corresponding to various degrees of nordicity ( Pre-North , Moyen North , Far North and Extrême North ). Louis-Edmond Hamelin proposed, for vapos going from 0 to 100 and whose sum makes the index of nordicity, that a geographical point is Scandinavian or in North if it has an index of nordicity higher than 200. According to this criterion, majority of the Canada except the south of the Vancouver Island, the grounds skirting the border with the the United States, the Meadows, the corridor Quebec - Windsor and the majority of the Seaboard provinces, belonged to the Northern .
