Norbert de Xanten
Norbert de Xanten , born in 1080 of a noble family of Cologne. It was wire of Heribert of Gennep, lord of Millen, which was a close relation to Gottschalk, count de Zutphen, his son (see this bond) or his brother (see this other bond).

Encouraged by the bishop of Laon Barthelemy of jur., it initially in vain tries to reform the Chanoines Abbaye Saint Martin's day de Laon then founds in 1120, in the Forêt of Voas, the current forest of Saint-Gobain (Aisne), an abbey with the locality Prémontré (site éponyme of the order of Prémontrés). The following year, from passage to Namur, it receives from the countess Ermesinde (woman of the count Godefroy) a richly equipped foundation: Floreffe (November 27th, 1121).
In its combat against the Tanchelisme, it transforms the chapter Séculier of the Abbaye Saint-Michel of Antwerp into chapter Régulier in 1124.
February 16th 1126, it receives from the pope Honorius II the bubble of confirmation Apostolicæ disciplinæ , which approves the choice of the Règle of saint Augustin and confirms the possessions of Prémontré and other foundations of the order.
The same year, it is named archbishop of Magdeburg, in Saxony. Made a point by its new functions of leaving Prémontré, it indicates Hugues de Fosses to replace it.
One sees it from now on fighting at the sides of saint Bernard de Clairvaux to ensure the right good of Innocent II against the Antipape Anaclet. It reforms the clergy of Magdeburg, causing dissatisfaction among its subordinates who go as far as trying to assassinate it. It accompanies the emperor Lothaire II in Rome in quality by archichancelier of the Saint Empire.
He dies in Magdeburg the June 6th 1134.
