Norbert Glanzberg is a type-setter of film music born in 1910, and deceased in 2001.
Biography
Norbert Glanzberg is born on October 12th in Rohatyn in Galicie in double royal and imperial monarchy from Austria-Hungary. In 1911, its family emigrates towards Würzburg in Bavaria, or Norbert receives his mother its first Harmonica (1913), which caused the question: " why the music laughs, why the music cries? ". It enters to the Academy of Würzburg in 1922, already impassioned, it will be engaged as chief of chorus and assistant of the leader of Aachen since 1929; meet Béla Bartók and Alban Berg.In 1930, it is engaged as type-setter by Ufa, writes its first film music for Billy Wilder and the second for max Ophüls. But during the war, the fascistic mode makes rage in Germany and, in 1933, Goebbels indicates Glanzberg in the newspaper of the NSDAP - " Der Angriff" as degenerated Jewish artist. Norbert exiles himself in Paris.
In Paris in 1936, it meets another exiled: Django Reinhardt (jazz manouche). Norbert plays then in the balls haversacks. In 1938, it becomes acquainted with Lily Gauty and " writes to him; Happiness entered my cœur" (Das Glück STI in mein Herz getreten). In 1939, the Polish refugee Glanzberg is built-in the Polish army, stationed in England. In 1940, Norbert is demobilized army and returns in the south of France in " zone not occupée" ; he becomes acquainted with impressive Marouani which engages it for the rounds of Tino Rossi and of Edith Piaf. However in 1942, after having succeeded in withdrawing itself from the raids, it is however victim of a denunciation and jeté in prison for 6 months. Until 1944, it is hidden by Georges Auric and to finish by the poet Rene Laporte in Antibes, where it makes meetings with intellectual resistance: Eluard, Prévert, Aragon, Elsa Triplet, Juillard. It presents Maurice Chevalier to Juillard which will publish after the war its memories: " My road and my chansons".
Finally release! In 1945, Norbert is again free. He took share with the release of Maurice Chevalier, who is held by the resistance movement " Soleil" , then contributed to the defense of Mistinguett worried by a court of purification. Then 1946 to 1948, does Norbert leave in round with Charles Trenet to Africa (America?) south, then in international round with Tino Rossi.
In 1948, Edith Piaf sings " Padam-Padam" that he wrote with Henri Contet; then in 1952, Yves Montand leaves " Me I of fous" and " Large the boulevards". From 1953, it composes many film musics, in particular for the film Michel Strogoff with Curd Jürgens, then in 1954, music for the film " The goualeuse". Piaf sings " My horse-gear with moi". In 1955, it composes the music for the film " The sorcière" with Marina Vlady, then music for the film " The bride is too belle" (1956) with Brigitte Bardot. The year 1959 sees the birth of his/her son, Serge.
From 1962, until the Seventies, it still composes for Pétula Clark, Dalida and Mireille Mathieu. It is a victim of rock' N roll, the period " yéyé" an end puts at its career as a type-setter for the Variety. But in 1983, it makes a return to the classical music and is harnessed with the composition of a succession of Lieder on a collection of poems written during the war by prisoners " Death is a Master of Allemagne" (" … der Tod STI ein Meister aus Deutschland" being the refrain of the perhaps greater poem of Paul Celan, Running away of dead (Todesfuge) the ). It put in music in two cycles of each one 10 works of the Berliner songs and the traditional romantic Lieder. Then always into traditional, it composed in 1985 a concerto for two pianos inspired of the novels of Isaac Bashevis Singer: " The Yiddish" Continuation;.
More recently, it is redécouvert in Austria and person interviewed by Astrid Freyeisen of the Bavarian radio. It thus takes again the scene in 1998 and gives a concert to Würzburg with Hanna Schygulla. In 1999 the recording of a Christmas carol at the time of a concert will follow to the cathedral of Würzburg. Then it is a vast project which occupies it in 2000, it works on the orchestration of the " Yiddish" continuation; for a symphony orchestra. In March creation by the Philharmonic society of Lorraine under the direction of Fred Chaslin. The same concert took place in July with the Philharmonic society of Jerusalem, then in October by the Philharmonic society of Würzburg.
