Norah Jones
Norah Jones , born Geetali Norah Jones-Shankar the March 30th 1979 with New York (it changes officially its name into Norah Jones at the 16 years age), is an American singer of Jazz . She is one of the girls of the famous player of Indian Sitar Ravi Shankar.
Biography
Norah Jones is the girl of the famous player of sitar Ravi Shankar and Known Jones. Although born with New York, Norah Jones leaves to pass his childhood with his/her mother to Dallas (Texas) as of the 4 years age. As of its more young age, it is rocked by the musics which listening his/her mother, in particular the Jazz and the Soul, in particular of the artists like Bill Evans and Billie Holiday.It has two brothers and a sister.
Norah Jones studied with the Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts and at the university of Texas North. It specializes then in the piano jazz and gains many prices.
In 1999, it turns over to New York and settles with Manhattan. It integrates soon a group of funk: the Wax Poetic , but quickly, it assembles its own group with Jesse Harris, Lee Alexander and daN Rieser.
In January 2001, it signs a contract with the famous recording company Blue Note but it is only in spring 2002 that its first album Like Away with Me leaves. With this album, Norah Jones knows success and raid 8 Grammy Award S in 2003 (of which those of the best disc, better album, better song and revelation of the year). In 2004, it leaves its second album: Feels like Home which, far from reproducing the precedent turns more to the music Country. The album is sold to more than one million specimens in the week following its exit. In 2005, Norah Jones receives 3 additional Grammy Awards.
The same year, it also records a duet with Ray Charles. The song, entitled Young stag We Go Again , obtains 2 Grammy Awards, of which that of better duet of the year and better song of the year. The title is available in the album The Genius Loves Company , of Ray Charles.
In 2005, it takes part with Bob Dylan in the concert birthday 10 years of the giant of the sale in line Amazon. She sings in duet with Dylan on I Shall Be Released .
In 2006, it leaves the album The Little Willies within the group the same name, created in 2003. It ensures it the vocal part and the piano, with Richard Julian with the song, Jim Campilongo with the guitar, Lee Alexander with low and daN Rieser with the battery. Directed country, this album is composed for the major part, of recoveries (of Willie Nelson, Townes Van Zandt and Kris Kristofferson in particular). It is the first album under its own label, Milking Bull Records. It makes also an appearance on the album of Mike Patton, Peeping Tom.
In February 2006, the magazine Screen International reported that Norah Jones should take his first steps with the cinema in a film of Wong Kar-wai named My Blueberry Nights where it divides the poster with Jude Law and Natalie Portman. It is the film of opening of the Cannes festival 2007 (left envisaged in France on November 28th, 2007).
In March 2006, she sang with the burial of Dana Reeve, the wife of Christopher Reeve, died of one cancer at the 44 years age.
In January 2007, it leaves its third album solo entitled Not Too Late .
