Nonvolatile memory

A nonvolatile memory is a memory which preserves its data in the absence of power supply. One distinguishes the dead memories (ROMANIAN), and the memories of the type RAM not birds (NVRAM for not-bird RAM).

ROMANIAN (Read Only Memory)

NVRAM (Not Bird RAM)

There exist various technologies, some are not industrialized yet.

Ferrite cores (old woman now obsolete technology)

The ferrite cores used until the beginning of the year 1970 in the construction of the computers were a form of nonvolatile memory RAM.

FeRAM or FRAM (under development)

The memory FRAM or memory FeRAM (Ferroelectric RAM) is a type of nonvolatile memory of computer. It is similar to the Mémoire DRAM to which one added a ferro-electric layer to obtain to it not volatility. Compared to the memories flash used at present, this memory will have the following advantages:
  • more low fuel consumption of electricity;
  • a greater speed of reading and writing;
  • the possibility of being unobtrusive and rewritten a much greater number of times.

MRAM (under development)

Still under development the memory MRAM (Magnetic RAM) is a technology using the magnetic load of the electron. The theoretical performances make a memory usable of it in the long term in much of fields. Studied by all large the actors of electronics, it starts just (July 2006) with being marketed and should take its rise by 2010.

NRAM (under development)

The Memory NRAM or memory Nano-RAM is a type of memory of Ordinateur not bird with the state of Research and development. The operation of memory NRAM is based on the position of the nanotubes of carbon on a substrate similar to a Integrated circuit. In theory, the small dimension of the nanotubes should allow a very great density of information per unit of area. The researchers hope that this memory will replace one day the Mémoire flash.

PRAM (under development)

The Mémoire PRAM (PRAM, Phase-Changes Memory, PCM, Ovonic Unified Memory, Chalcogenide RAM or English C-RAM) is a type of memory of Ordinateur not bird with the state of Research and development. Memory PRAM uses the behavior of glass of chalcogénure which rocks of the crystalline form to the amorphous form in the effect of heat. The researchers hope that this memory will replace one day the Mémoire flash.
