A nonsense is a matter, a Proposition, a sentence deprived of direction. Concept close to the Absurd .

If one can qualify nonsense a inintelligible matter, then it is necessary to grant to the nonsense a subjective character. In fact, concretely, the concept seems of an unsoundable subjectivity. For example, are These remarks nonsenses? :

“The direction of the life, it is its nonsense. ”
“It is in the light of the direction of " I mens" that one determines that it is about a nonsense. ”

Epistemology

An attempt at formalization consists in qualifying nonsense any proposal to which cannot apply the Principe of the third excluded or a similar principle. Thus, the nonsense would be precisely this third (excluded). This is why in mathematical, it is postulated that any correctly formed proposal cannot be a nonsense.

Another attempt at formalization consists in (at the very least) qualifying nonsense any proposal for which contraposée cannot be formulated without ambiguity. It should be seen there a weaker criterion, since it does not qualify a nonsense of the sentences such as: “I lie. ” and “I do not lie. ” This criterion however condemns the majority of the sentences of the current language.

The criterion of direction , according to Wittgenstein, is even stronger: “the majority of the proposals and the questions which were written touching the philosophical matters are not false, but are deprived of direction. We thus can in no way of answering such questions, but only of establishing their nonsense. ” This position raises of a Positivisme logical extreme. Wittgenstein is new a Occam.
