Non-polar solvent
A non-polar solvent is a Solvant not comprising any polar grouping.
Properties
Because of polar absence of grouping, these solvents have a very weak affinity with water, and have a solubility in negligible water.
Principal non-polar solvents
- aliphatic Hydrocarbon: Cyclohexane, n-hexane, Pentane, aromatic oil ethers
- Hydrocarbon: Benzene, Toluene, Xylene S, Cumène
- chlorinated Solvent: Carbon tetrachloride
