Nomeny is a common French, located in the department of Meurthe-et-Moselle and the area Lorraine.

History

Attribution in 609 of the church of Nomeny by the bishop of Metz, Papole, with the abbey of the Innocent Saints (since abbey Symphorien Saint) constitutes the first known historical document relating to Nomeny.
Nomeny will belong to the bishops of Metz until 1548, date on which Nicolas of Lorraine, count de Vaudémont, acquires of it.

Two children of Nicolas will be born in Nomeny:

  • In 1553, Louise, which will become queen of France by her marriage with Henri III in 1575
  • In 1558, Philippe-Emmanuel, duke of Mercoeur and Penthièvre, par of France, governor of Brittany, marquis de Nomeny (which counts in its descent Louis XV, the kings of Spain and Portugal).

Francoise de Mercœur, girl of Philippe-Emmanuel, sells Marquisat de Nomeny to his/her cousin the duke Henri II of Lorraine in 1612.

The duchess dowager, widowed Marguerite de Gonzague of Henri II will come to live in Nomeny of 1624 with 1629.

Richelieu then Louis XIV will order the destruction of the fortifications and the castle of Nomeny.

In 1766, Nomeny becomes French.

In 1790, the city is attached to the department of the Meurthe, become Meurthe-et-Moselle in 1871. The August 20th 1914, 2nd, 4th and 8th bank account number of the German imperial army destroyed in Nomeny 200 houses and passed 55 civilians by the weapons, German Atrocités made at the beginning of the First World War.

Fortress (11th) and castle (14th) of the bishops of Metz. The vestiges are limited to those of three turns and the four curtains of the fortress. Castle, it remains only the paved yard.

  • Marguerite from Lorraine, sister of the precedents, born in 1564, wife of Anne, duke of Merry (1581) then of François of Luxembourg, duke of Piney-Luxembourg (1599).
  • Jean-François Tapray, pianist, harpsichordist, organist, type-setter born in Nomeny where his/her father Jean Taperé was titular parochial organ (Legros 1702) of 1735 to 1740 (source: register of the Congregation of the Very Blessed Sacrament of the Furnace bridge of Nomeny).
  • Alexandre-Anne Jardot, French military writer born in Nomeny on June 15th, 1804, was allowed at the school of Saint-Cyr military school, was useful in Algeria and obtained on January 3rd, 1851 the rank of major of staff. He was attached then to the place of Paris. With. -. Jardot has was promoted Officer of the Legion of Honor on November 10th, 1851. He died in Paris on January 24th, 1890.
