Nomenclature FCI

Nomenclature FCI (International Cynologique Federation) is used for a better classification of the races of Chien S. the unit of the races is divided into ten groups, themselves subdivided in sections where the race of the Chien is. Each race has moreover one number, indicating it in a single way.

For example, the Beauceron is in group 1, section 1 and carries the n°44.

Groups

Group 1

Contains all the Chien S of Berger and herdsman (except Chien S of herdsman Swiss which is in group 2, section 3).
  • Section 1: sheepdogs, among whom one finds the Malinois (n°15 c), the Beauceron (n°44), the Border Collie (n°297)…
    Le “C” after the 15 (n° of the Malinois) indicates a subcategory of the race n°15: this one gathers several shapes of Belgian sheepdogs, “has” indicates the Groenendael, “B” the Laekenois…
  • Section 2: the Dog S of herdsman gathering amongst other things the Herdsman of the Ardennes

Group 2

  • Section 1 Type Pinscher and Schnauzer with two sub-sections,
    • sub-section 1.1 for the Pinscher,
      Une race given can still be subdivided. For example, the n°185a (Group 2, Section 1.1) corresponds to Zwergpinscher or dwarf Pinscher French.
    • sub-section 1.2 for the Schnauzer
  • Section 2: the Molossoïde S.
  • Section 3: Dogs of Swiss mountain and herdsmen like the Bernese Herdsman.
  • Section 4: Other races

Group 3

It is the group of the Terrier S, the sections classify the races by the sizes of the dogs.

Group 4

It is the group dedicated to the Teckel S.

Group 5

All dogs known as primitive and dogs of the type Spitz.
  • Section 1: Scandinavian dogs of sledge (the Husky S, Malamute…).
  • Section 2: Scandinavian dogs of hunting (Dog of Swedish dash, and Norwegian).
  • Section 3: Scandinavian dogs of guard and shepherd
  • Section 4: The Spitz S Europeans (Spitz wolf…)
  • Section 5: Spitz S Asian and races related (Chow, Eurasier…)
  • Section 6: Primitive type Mexican naked Dog, Dog of the Pharaon…
  • Section 7: Primitive type gun dog.
  • Section 8: Gun dog of the primitive type with a linear ear on the back.

Group 6

The name of this group is that of all the sections which follow:
  • Section 1: It is one of largest, one finds the current dogs there (English Foxhound, Basset hound, Beagle,…), dogs having sizes, forms and peelings different giving rise to much from sub-sections.
  • Section 2: Dog of research to blood.
  • Section 3: Others Race S related.

  • Section 2: Pointers British and Irish gathering the Setter S and the to point S

Group 8

Big family gathering:
  • Section 1: the dogs rapporteurs of Game S with in particular the Retriever S.
  • Section 2: The dogs leveurs of Game S and broussailleurs (Cocker spaniel, Springer,…)
  • Section 3: Water dogs

Group 9

Dogs of approval and related
  • Section 1: The Bichon S and related
  • Section 2: The Poodle S (dwarf, average and large without counting all the colors)
  • Section 3: Belgian dogs of small sizes of which the Scratch
  • Section 4: Naked dogs (Chinese Dog,…).
  • Section 5: Dogs of the Tibet (Shih Tzu,…).
  • Section 6: The Chihuahueño one finds there as the name can indicate it the Chihuahua.
  • Section 7: Spaniel English of approval (Riding King Charles…).
  • Section 8: Spaniel S Japanese and Pekinese.
  • Section 9: dwarf Spaniel continental.
  • Section 10: The Kromfohrländer S.
  • Section 11: The Molossoïde S of small size (French Bulldog…).
