In the Egyptian antiquity, the nomarques were the civils servant who managed the name (provinces) in the name of the Pharaon.
Although the nomarques ones were normally named by the Pharaon, the weakening of the central capacity often led to the creation of local dynasties; the function was transmitted then hereditarily. During the “intermediate periods” (periods of major disorders) the nomarques ones became true small kinglets which went sometimes until using the Attributs of the Pharaon on the decorations of their burials.
