Noirmont
Noirmont is a common Suisse located in the middle of the Frank-Mountains, in the Canton of the Jura. Its inhabitants are Noirmoniers, or Poilies (pitch merchants, sap running of the trees) in patois. Noirmont is known for its tradition of the carnival, the festival of the song of large, the cardiovascular center of readjustment and the rocks of Sommêtres.
Geography
The commune of Noirmont is to 5 km as the crow flies in the south-west of Saignelégier. It includes/understands the hamlets of the Little-Péquignot, the Hollow-of-Hinds and the Barriers. It extends on the plate from the Frank-Mountains and goes down until the bottom from the valley from the Doubs, where the hamlet of Goule is.The highest point of Noirmont is at an altitude 1' 184.6 meters, near the locality " The " Point of view of;. The point low is at the level of Doubs, with 544 meters of altitude (sources: swissmap 25, the Jura).
The rock peak of Sommêtres (1079 meters of altitude), where draw up the ruins of the manor of Spiegelberg, overhangs the valley of Doubs.
History
The name of Noirmont is mentioned for the first time in 1397. The origin of the place goes back to the reign of Imier de Ramstein, Prince-Bishop of Basle which, in 1384, decided to exempt taxes the clearers of new grounds.Of 1793 with 1815, Noirmont belonged to the France, in the department of the Mount-Terrible , then in that of the Haut-Rhin. Following a decision of the Congress of Vienna, in 1815, the common one was allotted to the canton Bern, like all those of the District of Frank-Mountains.
Since January 1st 1979, Noirmont belongs to the canton of the Jura.
Economy
Agriculture remains very present at Noirmont with the breeding of horses and the dairy production, the latter being primarily intended for the manufacture of the Tête of Monk.During the second part of the 19th century, Noirmont saw appearing the clock industry, which was a long time the most important industrial activity of the commune. Today, two large companies of this sector still have their workshops there: Paul Barb and Watches Louis Erard SA. Some SME are active in undercutting and the precision mechanics.
The site of Goule shelters an electric factory owner of the electric company éponyme.
The old Villa Rock-Montès lodges the Private clinic Noirmont, centers cardiovascular readjustment.
