Demography
Places and monuments
The commune of Nucariu counts three churches and a vault, built all the four in the current of the XVIIIe century, in a style baroque characteristic of the influence of Genoa then occupying power. The principal church, holy Michel, restored at the end of the Nineties, has a " campanile" (bell-tower) coupled with the back of the apparent, typical schistous stone monument of the architecture of the " castagniccia". Many paintings misleads of it the eye with the walls and with the ceiling decorate the interior of the building which counts also a very beautiful statue of saint Michel archangel embanking one seizing red devil. With regard to the architecture of the houses, those are of high size, with the roofs covered with roofing stones, and the frontages covered with plaster and rough coats. The hamlet of Petricaggio which was classified as site characteristic within the regional natural park of Corsica has a very pretty place in " ricciada" , i.e. paved out of stones planted with the vertical, which made it possible at the origin to avoid the flows of rain and gullying.
The commune of Nocario is located at the foot of the majestic mount San Petrone (1767 meters), of which the rise starting from the collar of Prato, relatively easy, allows to profit at the top from a splendid sight on the unit of the castagniccia. One finds at the top remarkable a small statue of Pierre saint fixed on the ground, carved in " green of Orezza" , tender stone of volcanic origin and dark color green which one finds in the ground of this area.
The village knows today still the traditional harvest of sweet chestnuts in October, as well as an artisanal production of very tasty sweet chestnut flour, being used to compose the " pulenda" , traditional dish which is tasted with fresh cheese of ewe.
The regional natural park of Corsica established at the end of the Nineties a house of the Park within a traditional masonry restored in the hamlet of Pietricaggio. In addition to offices and residences for the researchers, one finds a workshop of cabinet work there where one manufactures typical furniture out of wooden of chestnut.
