Nobuyoshi Araki
Nobuyoshi Araki (荒木経惟, born the May 25th 1940 with Tokyo) is a Photographe Japanese.
Biography
Graduate of the department of engineering of the university of Chiba in 1963, it receives the same year the Prix Taiyo for Satchin , of the name of the cat of a little girl. In 1971, it publishes a series distributed into private, " Senchimentaru Na tabi" (センチメンタルナタビ, sentimental Voyage ), where its private life, and in particular its marriage and its wedding night, appear in the shape of a newspaper. At first sight banal, these photographs are in fact of the settings in scene. In 1972, at the time of a performance, the Super-Photo concert , where the photographs drawn from this series are photocopied and sent by the post office to selected recipients. The topics of its photographs are Tokyo, the sex and death. Tokyo, because it is its birthplace. He considers that photography is the love of the sex and death. For him, these two desires are inseparable. He photographs also many nude women, to start with his wife. For him, nudity is in the portrait and not in the body. It photographs also flowers, metaphor of the female sex.
It indicates the date on each one of its photographs. It means that the stereotype is one moment of the present, between the past and the future.
It carries out a series of photography which is dissociated by the deformations brought to the stereotypes. Indeed, the pulling of the tests was carried out at very high temperature. Then, the stereotype east cools. Then, it is hung outside. Thus, it is transformed by the light and the bad weather. So its photographs are the product of time present.
Its work thereafter brought a great notoriety near the Japanese and international public to him: its photographs, always accompanied by texts on the mode of a diary and a test, were with the avant-garde of the artistic tendencies of the moment. Prolific artist, it declined of many series of photographs and tests, quickly haloed of a sulfurous atmosphere and mythical figure of the artist. After the death of his wife, many photographs of prostitutes, young naked coeds, scenes openly sexual punctuate its work. The Bondage, resulting from an old Japanese tradition, also gave place to a series with the particularly thorough esthetism.
Araki inaugurated a kind of photographic step new, where the objective follows to more close the life of the artist in a car-fictitious vein arranged with a great control. It is, before the hour, a breach in this medium originally partitioned, of which many photographers plastics technicians or of the contemporary artists will follow the trace: Sophie Calle, Romance Opalka and others.
