Nobutaka Itagaki (, Itagaki Nobutaka , one finds also Nobukata (信形)) (1489 - March 23rd 1548) was one of famous the 24 generals of Shingen Takeda, known at the same time for its warlike talents and its strategies.

Biography

Initially vassal of Nobutora Takeda, it becomes one of the chiefs of the conspiracy which will deposit it in 1541, after which it becomes a close adviser of Shingen. It also belonged to the one of its units of espionage.

With the number of his feats of arms, one can also quote the forced tender of Yorishige Suwa in Shingen in 1542, the catch of the castle of Takato in 1545, and victory over Norimasa Uesugi in Usui Toga in 1546. These two last victories make of him a showpiece of the conquest of the Province of Shinano and confirm its talents of tactician.

After these victories, Nobutaka becomes increasingly proud, and starts to organize ceremonies of victories without really gaining battles, which quickly become fewer. Since it is oldest of vassal and having educated Shingen, little can allow itself to criticize its attitude. In 1547, Nobutaka and its troops are practically eliminated in a battle against the Murakami clan, and if it had not been helped in time by Toratane Hara, Nobutaka itself was as much in danger. Shingen then offers the waka to him according to encouraging it to correct itself:

Dare Mo Miyo Mitsureba Yagate Kaku Tsuki No Izayofu Anna ya Hito No Yo No Naka

誰もみよ満つればやがて欠く月の十六夜ふ穴や人の世の中
(Translation) Everyone sees that even superb a full moon starts to reduce its size with the time which passes. Even in our human lives the things occur thus.

In 1548, with the Battle of Uedahara, Nobutaka, satisfied with a victory made stop its troops to make a ceremony. The troops of Muramaki gather then and counter-attack. Nobutaka dies in the battle.
