Nobuo Uematsu

Nobuo Uematsu (植松伸夫) is a Compositeur Japan board born the March 21st 1959 with Kōchi.
Unanimously recognized like one of largest in the field of the Video game, in particular for its work for the series Final Fantasy, he is also member of a group of Power metal, The Black Mages.

Biography

Nobuo Uematsu composes for the first time at the 12 years age at the time of course of piano: its idol is then Elton John. However, during all its youth, he dreams to become professional fighter or Olympic athlete. He obtains a diploma of the university of Kanagawa where his/her father sent it in order to become lawyer or doctor.

It forms its first group at 22 years, there takes the place of the synthetizer, but realizes that its preference is turned towards the composition: it is then employed by a Japanese commercial radio to write the musics of several spots.

At 26 years, he is engaged at Square by Hironobu Sakaguchi, but after he composed the musics of some plays on BORN, the company is found in great financial problems: Sakaguchi then entrusts to him the composition of the play of the last chance, Final Fantasy . Its musics want to be epic and orchestral in the tone, although the weak technology of the time allows only one minimalist result. Thanks to its unhoped-for success, Final Fantasy saves Square of disappearance and gives place to many continuations whose music remains under the responsibility of Uematsu (even if, since the episode FFX, Nobuo Uematsu takes more distance to deal with its group Black Mages).

The series generates a multitude of albums: original soundtracks, but also Piano Collections (topics reinterpreted with the piano solo) and other arrangements. At the same time, it takes part in other projects and signs, in 1994, an album solo titrated Phantasmagoria . In 1996, it appears with the credits of Front Mission: Gun Hazard at the sides of Masashi Hamauzu, Junya Nakano and Yasunori Mitsuda.

While it composes certain topics of the televised series Final Fantasy: Unlimited , the " page; Final Fantasy " start to turn in 2001 for Nobuo Uematsu: it divides, from now on, the musics of the tenth episode with Masashi Hamauzu and Junya Nakano; then, the following year, organizes a concert-homage where the topics emblematic of all the series are played by the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra. A few months later, theoriginal one of the eleventh episode leaves with, this time, Naoshi Mizuta and Kumi Tanioka. It forms, the following year, the group The Black Mages which takes again certain topics of the series in a style progressive metal, then deals with the musics of Hanjuku Hero VS 3D (and of its continuation two years later).

In 2004, it leaves Public garden-Enix and works finally on its own account by creating the small firm Smile Please, but continuous to compose for the plays of the firm become world heavy truck in the market of the Video game. In 2005, it composes its first original soundtrack of film: that of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children.

Lastly, in 2007, it creates the event by producing certain musics for a play Nintendo: Super Bros Smash. Brawl.

Nobuo Uematsu is regarded one of largest the type-setters of video game in the world and as one of the principal founders of the saga Final Fantasy sold to million specimens. In the years 2000, it takes part in many concerts throughout the world, dedicated to Final Fantasy or the video games in general.

Style

Nobuo Uematsu takes as a starting point the large romantic type-setters , the New Age or by popular groups like the Beatles.

One feels his influences and his taste for the simple and effective melodies. It manages to give an environment thanks to some notes, thus revealing the force of its work. However, one reproaches him, sometimes, the bad quality of the sounds used. With the arrival, on the market of consoles like the Playstation, Nobuo Uematsu does not feel any more the technical limits inherent in the BORN, Super Born, or others. Its genius is expressed then in a way even more splendid: rounds are even organized, mainly with Japan, the last being orchestrated by famous New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra.
