Noble Turn

The Noble Turn , located street Georges Lefèvre, in the district of Lille-Center to Lille is classified Historic building. It was renamed in 1975 under the name of " Departmental memorial of Resistance and Déportation".

History

The Noble Tower is the oldest strengthened building of Lille, making party of the plan of defense of Lille at the time of the Guerre One hundred Year old against the French invaders. It is indeed, the Duc of Burgundy and Count de Flandre, Philippe II of Burgundy says Philippe the Bold one, who decided construction in 1402 and entrusted of it work which lasted 20 years with Jehan Sceutre. In 1667, the tower is partly damaged at the time of the head office of Lille. Vauban restores it in 1672 so that it finds its place in its new defensive diagram of the city. The fire of the Église Saint-Saver of Lille in 1896 damages the tower, part of the wall crumbles. The Noble Tower will become post-war period a place of memory of the Résistance of the Second world war and the Général de Gaulle will inaugurate it in 1959.
