Nobel Prize of physics

The Nobel Prize of physics is a reward managed by the Fondation Nobel, according to the last wills of the will of the chemist Alfred Nobel. It rewards for the eminent scientific figures being brilliantly illustrated in the field of the Physique and whose work is supposed to have brought new and new knowledge in the discipline. It is allotted each year in October by the members of the royal Académie of sciences of Sweden. After the revelation of the name of the prize winner beginning October, the medal and the diploma of the Fondation are officially given by the king of Sweden, the December 10th, birthday day of died of the founder of the price. Since 2001, it is equipped with an amount of 10 million Swedish crowns (a little more than one million Euros).

Prize winner nomination

According to the will of Alfred Nobel, the price must reward “the discovery or the most important improvement in physics”. Nobel wanted that it is allotted by the royal Académie of sciences of Sweden, as for the price in chemistry. This last delegates the choice of the prize winner to the Nobel Committee, depend on the Fondation and specific to each branch to be rewarded. The members of the committee are elected five per three years among the members of the Académie. Those are based on various authorities of authority on the matter to work out their nominations: physicists recognized, circles of eminent professors in university, association of researchers, former prizes winner, leaders of great national centres or international of scientific research… It is interdict with each person solicited to vote for itself. Thousands of annual proposals, obligatorily argued and detailed, are submitted to the committee which studies reliability of it. It prune them half to on the whole preserve only one about fifty canditatures subjected as of spring at the other academicians who must subscribe to some recommendations. The final list, determined by the Academy, includes/understands five names or groups of names associated with a precise research. The election of the prizes winner is done in October. Their identity is revealed at the time of an official press conference. The nominations must normally remain secret even if many were made public. Sworn are obliged to respect the instruction of the will of Nobel: “proved reliable with time” to allot the price. Between the discovery of the scientist and his designation as a récipiendiaire must normally run out one period minimum twenty years but it can be much longer. Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar, for example, was honoured in 1983 for its research on the structure and the stellar evolution which dated from the the Thirties. This rule is logically prone to polemic insofar as the personalities in the field do not survive all the starting interval given. Immense scientists, whose work was however of primary importance in the improvement of knowledge in Physique, were not rewarded, the price which cannot be allotted in a posthumous way.
