Noah (type of vine)
The Noah or Noa is a Cépage hybrid American white.
Origin and geographical distribution
It comes from a sowing of Taylor realized by Otto Wasserzicher in 1896. It is a Cépage Hybride direct producer of Vitis riparia and Vitis labruscaIn France, it is a type of vine prohibited since 1935 like are the five different same group: the clinton, the Herbemont, the Isabelle, the Jacquez and the othello.
The majority of these hybrid type of vines were officially prohibited for medical reasons. Indeed, the rate of Méthanol of the Vin resulting from some of these type of vines would be rather high. However, one does not find this problem for the majority of the hybrids such as for example for Noah and Jacquez. In addition, only the Fermentation of the Grape juice can produce methanol, one can thus eat the grape or drink the juice without risk more especially as the rate of Resvératrol (substance anticancerigene) is more present in some of these type of vines (Jacquez) that in Vitis will vinifera not hybrids.
Prohibition would result rather from politico-economic reasons.
Today, the type of vine practically disappeared. Sometimes one finds it at private individuals established in treillised vineyards.
Like parent, it was used much for the 19. century old hybrideurs such as François Baco, Bertille Seyve, Pierre Castel, Fernand Gaillard and Albert Seibel. The most known obtaining is the white Baco.

Farming aptitudes
Its maturity is of second time: 2 weeks and half after the chasselas. It is a vigorous and fertile type of vine even in the short face. It is resistant to the Mildiou, the Oïdium and the Black-rot. Its resistance to the Phylloxéra is insufficient and it fears the Chlorose.
Technological potential
The bunches and the bays are average. The bunches are cylindro-conical; round bays, greenish white, with very viscous soft pulp. Noah gives a wine to the Gout foxé, regarded as unpleasant. Was used it sometimes to produce sparkling wines. Distilled, it gives a scented brandy pointing out the Framboise and the pink .Like table grapes, Noah is a grape with the very discussed taste which does not leave indifferent. Those which find it allot pleasant him flavors of very ripe Wild strawberry and of Litchi, those which find it allot unpleasant him a taste of bug, comparable with that which have the ripe S or the Framboise S visited by these insects. It generally is very sweetened but also very acid. The bays have the characteristic to be able to be easily eaten without their skin: a simple pressure is enough to make spout out gelatinous pulp in the mouth starting from the peduncular opening.
