No the champagne for overcome

No champagne for overcome the , Romance French of Andre Figueras, 1981, Publications Andre Figueras.

The argument

The novel opens over one evening of April 1944 in occupied France and is closed again under IVe République. It is about a saga novel in three times, one (short) saga with ten main characters. The novel is cut out so that a film adaptation would be rather easy with scénariser.

FIRST PART - THE LAST CUTS

Where one follows the peregrinations of a renegade Jewish business man , old 3eminence grise of IIIe République, which clinks glasses with the occupant and bribes the police force to recover the goods of its off-set co-religionists.

Where one assists with the removal and rape of two Jewish little girls by a procurer anti-semite covered by a guardian of building, decided well to monopolize their supposed richnesses.

Where this same procurer puts an young woman on the pavement and the growth in the arms of a German officer making him gleam richnesses.

Where one attends the denunciation of a family of notable whose oldest son joined De Gaulle , and by which the junior is constrained to integrate the Milice.

Where André Figueras describes like anybody the wanderings of exhausted France by 4 years of occupation.

SECOND PART - TO THE DREGS OF THE PEOPLE

Where the Jewish business man suddenly decides to cut the bonds with the Kommandantur for to secure a patriotic respectability .

Where the procurer assassinates the two Jewish little girls and makes some show another.

Where the guardian is made accessory to the informer by the fault of which the family of notable has to send her junior to the Militia.

Where junior says it refuses to be accessory to the Militiamans , flees and passed to tobacco through Spanish republicans funkers in the maquis, which in particular, will crush the hands to him, handicapping it with life.

Where a battalion of North-Africans comes to release Is France , without suspecting that less than twenty years later they will clash between OAS and FLN.

Where the informer takes the posture of the resistant of last minute and autoproclame " colonel".

Where the young prostitute having divided the layer of German is made lynch by crowd.

Where André Figueras is indignant on a Libération even more hypocritical than the previous years, where national enthusiasm closes the eyes on the worst exactions .

THIRD PART - THESE SIRS (SE) ARE SERVED

Where the Jewish business man, after having taken part in the introduction of IVe Republic, is caught up with by his past and sees asking for accounts .

Where the guardian and the procurer assassin do not leave themselves there so badly, with the medal of Resistance .

Where the young gaullist tries to make release his brother imprisoned for " Collaboration ".

Where the resistant colonel of the last hour is elected appointed and has some influence with the Room.

Where the father whom he had denounced is constrained to ask him of the assistance.

Where André Figueras draws a assessment very mitigated from the post-war period .

The scene shock

Pas of champagne for overcome the especially marked the spirits because of a particularly horrible scene, in the Second part, where André Figueras described by the menu fate reserved for a prostitute by a " committee of purification " . Public humiliation, beating up " populaire" , torture, then execution.

Figueras wrote this scene so that in fact the cruel acts perpetrated against the young woman shock us, but the joy and the enthusiasm with which they were made or applauded by crowd. Figueras concludes: these barbarians of the Libération are the same ones who put Europe at fire and blood during the war. the Man is not naturally good .

And afterwards?

André Figueras concludes his novel in form from opening, leaving the possibility to multiple bounces to come.

Pas of champagne for overcome the knew a continuation in 1982, the last days of the fatherland , plus lampoonist, less romantic than the first volume. It does not remain about it less than Figueras, behind the spades launched to the gaullists, the ambition to tell us a history of the IVe République by the short period of the spyglass. One finds many characters, in particular this collaborator deputy charged to check that the marshal Pétain is treated with dignity on the Île of Yeu. André Figueras leans here on the genesis of the Guerre of Algeria. Figueras will not write the third volume that it had a time considered.
