No5el Jourda de Vaux

No5el Jourda de Vaux (Castle of Be worth, March 12th 1705 - September 14th 1788), Marshal of France (1783).

Marriage and descent

The November 21st 1741, it marries: Jeanne of the Door (? - 1775). They had two children:

Jeanne-Marie born in 1745, wife the September 3rd 1765: Louis marquis de Vauborel, (? - 1832).
Adelaide-Jeanne, marries the September 29th 1770: François count de Fougières, (? - 1787), then in second weddings 1789: Charles Morey, count de Pontgibault.

Military career

1723. October 16th. It enters to the service like teaches colonelle regiment of infantry of Auvergne

1733. It makes its first countryside as lieutenant of the same regiment in Italy. It attends ten seats, a combat and with the battles of Parma (29. June 1734) and Guastalla (September 19th, 1734) when it receives two wounds.

Corsica

l738. January April 1741. It is used in Corsica as captain under the orders of the general as Maillebois. It is distinguished with defense from Guisoni. Named Knight of Saint Louis. He receives the command of the place of Corte, capital of the Corsica .

1742. With the army of Germany under the direction of Louis Charles Armand Fouquet of Beautiful-Isle i1 is distinguished during the Siège from Prague. It takes part in three seats and a combat.

1743. March 6th. Named on the request of the marshal of Broglie, colonel of the Regiment of Angoumois.

1744. It attends the seats of Menin and Ypres.

1745. The marshal of Saxony distinguishes it, the day of the victory of Fontenoy (May 10th) and with the seats of Tournai, of Oudenarde, Undermunde and Ath.

1746. Its participation in the seat of Brussels is worth to him to be named on February 23rd, sergeant. It is used with the seat as Namur on October 11th and takes part in the Bataille of Rocourt.

1747. It is used for the Siège of the Lock, in the south of Ghent, of the Fort of Issendick and Filipino. Operate on Malines (camp), Tirlemont (camp}, assisted with the Bataille of Lauffeld (July 2nd) and receives a fifth wound during the Siège of Berg-COp-Zoom.

1748. It is made prisoner. May 10th, it is promoted Brigadier.

1752. July 4th. It is named lieutenant of the King in Besancon.

December 1759.17. It is named general lieutenant of the armies of the king.

1760. January. It leaves Corsica to join in Germany, on April 1st, the army of the marshal of Broglie. April 13rd. It attends the combat of Bergen. September 19th. It attends the attack of the camp of the general Wargenheim. November 19th. It defends the plain of Gottingen until 1761.

1761. May 19th. The king gives him in testimony of his satisfaction the government of Thionville.

1769. February. The count of Vaux is called with the command of the army in Corsica. He had appeared in about thirty seats at least, had attended with a great number of engagements, five great battles and had received, service of the king and France, 5 wounds. April 7th. It unloads in Corsica, in Saint Florent. June 22nd. The general of Be worth writes to the duke Choiseul “… All Corsica is subjected to Roy…” August 1st. Appointed general governor of Corsica.

1770. April 10th. It yields its command to the count of Marbeuf.

The General of Be worth is indicated as commander-in-chief of the armies where figure Rochambeau and Lafayette which must operate a descent in England with the assistance of the Spanish fleet. The project is abandoned.

1780. It receives the command as a chief of the province of the county of Burgundy.

1783. June 13rd. It is made Marshal of France. Its currency entered on its stick of marshal is: " Terror belli, Disappointed pacis".

The Dauphine one

1788. At the end of June. The marshal of Be worth replaces the duke of Clermont-Thunder as general Lieutenant ordering the province of the Dauphiné.

September 14th. Died with Grenoble of the Marshal at the 83 years age.

By will, the Marshal expresses a double desire: that which its heart was deposited with Paray, of which he was lord, and that which its body, making return to the native land that he had always liked, rested in the vault of Are worth in the church of Retournac.
