Nizar Nayyouf
Nizar Nayyouf is a Syrian journalist
Editor association of the newspaper Sawt Al-Democratiyya (the Voice of the Democracy), published by the Committee for the Defense of the Democratic liberty in Syria (CDF) and contributor with the weekly magazine Al-Hurriya , it was imprisoned in 1992. Condemned to 10 years of prison to belong to the CDF and to diffuse " false informations" , confined in the military prison of Mezze with Damas and regularly tortured, its health became very precarious.
In 2000, always imprisoned, it has accepted the world Prix of freedom of the press decreed by UNESCO and the Plume of gold of freedom given by AMJ to greet “its services bright with the cause of freedom of the press”.
It was released in May 2001.
