Nitta clan
The clan Nitta (新田氏) was a clan of the medieval Japan which goes down from the clan Minamoto and more precisely of Minamoto No Yoshishige. The clan was one of the largest enemies of the shogunat of the Ashikaga and then of the regents of the Clan Hōjō.
The Nitta clan started to take importance at the beginning of the 13th century, it then controlled the Province of Kozuke and had a small influence on the town of Kamakura, capital of Ashikaga.
The clan played a big role while being combined with the Clan Dates and by supporting the court from the south at the time of the period of the Nanboku-chō.
