Synopsis

Sean McNamara and Christian Troy is two esthetic surgeons. They have a private clinic with Miami in which they receive patients of all horizons and juggle with a personal life and professional animated, filled of unexpected events.

First season

The first season is rich in events. One discovers the main characters of the series there through their (my) adventures. Sean, married and father of two children, pass through a marital serious attack with his Julia wife and must face the particularly difficult crisis of adolescence of their son, Matt; as for Christian, confirmed and tempting bachelor without scruples, it must face the sidereal vacuum of his existence.

Where Sean seems to be an attentive father, a good husband and a conscientious doctor, it is discovered that it has impulses of violence (it goes until beating Julia in an episode). Sean will also have an adventure in love with a patient reached with a cancer: Megan O' Hara. After the death of this one, Julia (which will attend funerals with Sean) will understand that her husband had a very serious connection with this woman. This connection will carry also reached to the private clinic, since Sean will give up his aptitude test due to hallucinations. In spite of his undeniable talent in the field of the cosmetic surgery, Sean will make errors. Indeed, he will forget a grip in the belly of one of his patients, Mrs Grubman, who in compensation will ask so that all its operations of plastic surgery be entirely taken of load by the private clinic.

Christian is used for all the image of a man who has all that he wants and which does not need anybody. He “mentally tortures” the women for his own pleasure; he also puts a point of honor to make them insane, especially with regard to Kimber Henry, a mannequin, which becomes with its contact obsessed by the cosmetic surgery. At the bottom of him, Christian is always in love with Julia, the wife of Sean, with whom it had a connection a score of years before, before it is with her friend and associated future.

The arrival of Grace Santiago, psychologist engaged by Sean, goes chambouler the practices of the private clinic. It will not leave any of the two doctors indifferent.

On the councils of Grace, Christian will go to a meeting dependant sexual anonymities, where it will meet Gina. He will sleep with it, breaking his abstinence, then will throw it outside. It will return some episodes later to announce in Christian who it is pregnant of him. Consequently, Christian will try to improve, become a good father for Wilbur, his future wire, in the absence of being a good lover for Gina (which he hates deeply); but it in vain makes efforts, the destiny seems to want to keep it such as it is, namely a being cruel and as surface as the face lifts as it makes with its patients. Wearied of Kimber, it ends up exchanging it against the sport scar of Merrill Bobolit, a competitor. Because of Christian, the private clinic also will have very large troubles with Escobar Gallardo, a large drug trafficker.

Julia must face its missed life. It which saw chirurgienne esthetic remainder captive of its role of wife and mother. She decides nevertheless to resume her studies of medicine. She meets Jude, a young student who will not leave it indifferent. Its life of woman there too will be completely upset when she learns that his/her Matt son is perhaps not the child of Sean.

Matt, as for him, will be completely beside the plate of the beginning to the end and will face a missed car-circumcision, his/her small girlfriend who proves to be lesbian, an car accident which will be dramatic for one of his/her classmates…

In the middle of all that, Liz, the anesthetist lesbian of Sean and Christian, will bring his judgments, its criticisms and its observations, constituting a character balancing vis-a-vis the two monsters of self-destruction which are Sean and Christian. She is a little the voice of wisdom of the private clinic.

Second season

Sean learns that Matt is actually the son of its best friend, Christian. This last as has just learned as Wilbur, the son of Gina, is not him. Nevertheless, Christian sticks to the child and decides to adopt it, but his/her true father will try to have the guard of it.

Julia, depressive, separates from Sean and passes very close to death. She sees arriving the disaster which his/her mother incarnates, Erica Noughton, an achieved, but invading, egoistic woman and terribly imbue of itself.

Liz, which wishes being mother, will require of Christian inséminer, but its pregnancy will be finished tragically.

But the true test in this season, it is diabolic Ava Moore. Initially coach of life of Julia, it will become the mistress of the Matt young person. She will appear unhealthy and manipulator, as well with Matt as with her son, Adrian. However, this woman conceals many the secrecies, and not least…

Other events will come to hustle the daily newspaper of the McNamara/Troy cabinet. Thus, Christian will feel attracted by the interior beauty of a blind woman; the Carver, a masked rapist who disfigures his victims, will be caught some with our two surgeons; Merrill Bobolit, deposed, became a dead loss toxico, which does not prevent it from continuing with (badly) doing its work; Kimber, become star of the porn, will allure Sean…

Third season

The season starts on a dramatic turn of events. Christian, attacked by the Carver, acknowledges to be violated in addition to to be disfigured. He will follow a handing-over in total question of it of his existence. Thus it will ask Kimber to marry it. Kimber accepts, but both been engaged soon will wonder whether their marriage is an good idea.

Sean proposes with a young surgeon, Quentin Costa, to become temporarily the associate of the McNamara/Troy private clinic. This last accepts, but it proves thereafter that it is not as clean on him as Sean had believed it. From now on divorced, Sean also will have a connection with Nikki Moretti, an young mother continued by the Maffia, of which he remade the face.

The Carver continues to disfigure without slackening various people. Several members of the McNamara/Troy private clinic will be successively suspected of being the masked rapist. Kit MacGraw, a detective charged to find it, in addition will start a connection with three with Christian and Kimber.

Julia, from now on independent and decided well to become an achieved woman, will open Spa of the Sea, a private clinic of back in shape which she will create with Liz, discharged of Troy/MacNamara, and Gina, become HIV positive.

Matt is not able to recover from the connection which it had with Ava Moore. Déboussolé, it will leave with a transsexual before turning to a Nazi family.

All that without counting other events: Erica, the mother of Julia, is victim of a crash landing of plane, Christian finds his biological mother and discovers that it is the result of a rape, Julia is again pregnant…

Fourth season

Sean and Christian become the employees of Burt Landau, an old business man richissime who repurchased their private clinic. Christian falls in love with his young wife, Michelle. But he is unaware of that she is a former prostitute and that its procurer, James, obliges it to take part in a traffic of bodies.

Feeling a great vacuum in his life, Christian consults a psychiatrist, Faith Wolper, which puts forward the idea according to which it would be unconsciously in love with Sean. Consequently, Christian fears to test indeed a homosexual attraction for his friend. As for Faith, it tests soon an obsessional attraction for Christian and proves to be a fine manipulator.

Julia is confined of small Connor, the second child of Sean. The child suffers from a very rare malformation of the hands, which his/her father will try to cure. This operation will be in the center of a new marital crisis between Sean and Julia, who come just from remarier.

Kimber is from now on a follower of the Scientologie. It will make of Matt, depressive, a novel member of its church. The parents of Matt will try to tear off it influence of the scientology and Kimber.

The father and the mother-in-law of Wilbur (the son of Gina) die in an car accident. Christian then becomes the legal guardian of the child, but not Gina. The latter badly supports to be left with the variation, while Christian redécouvre the joys of paternity.

Escobar Gallardo, from now on imprisoned, is victim of an aggression and is found with the face flaring. Thanks to a blackmail, it obliges Sean and Christian to operate it. The continuation confirms that Escobar has more than one turn in its bag…

Comments

  • the title, Nip/Tuck , with reading nip, tuck , literally means “to incise (to nip) and to fold up, return, retighten (to tuck) ”, it is the action of the face lift.
  • the success of the series rests on two concepts: the solidity and richness of the scenarios and made very realistic of surgical operations.

  • Liz the anesthetist, the character played by Roma Maffia was to be called Liz Winters at the beginning; it is besides as such as it was credited during season 1. The name of Liz Cruz was decided and definitively adopted as from season 2.

  • At the beginning, it was not Julian McMahon which was to play the doctor Christian Troy. The role had been indeed retained by Bruno Campos (that one even which plays the doctor Quentin Costa), and its character was to be called Christian Vega. However, Julian McMahon finally took again the role, which made change the name of the character into Troy to have a Hispanic consonance.

  • the Carver ( The Carver in VO) is from now on one of the most known criminals of the small screen. Hidden by its white and pure mask, it disfigures the face of its victims in a very methodical way with blow of scalpel. This character (seasons 2 and 3) contributed to redynamiser the series.

  • the principal patient of the last episode of season 1 ( Escobar Gallardo ) takes as a starting point actual facts. In July 1997, Amado Carrillo Fuentes, one of the most powerful drug traffickers, died on the operating table whereas he had asked several operation facial (as well as important a liposuscion) so that one can recognize it never again.

  • the Siamese twins appearing in episode 9 of season 2 ( Rose & Raven Rosenberg ) are played by true Siamese twins, Lori and George Schappell. These two sisters were not with their first televised appearance; indeed, they turned several documentary on their lives, and even made an appearance with the Jerry Springer Show (a talk show ETAS-unien). It should be noted that George Schappell is also a known singer of country under the name of Reba Schappell. She gained in 1997 the L.A. Music Award for Best New Country Artist, a price rewarding the new singers for country. This same episode takes as a starting point fact realities, namely separation into 2000 of two Siamese twins connected by cranium, Gracie & Rosie Attard, operation which Rosie did not survive.

  • the history of the patient of episode 10 of season 2 ( Kimber Henry ), a writer man not Transsexuel which decides to be made pose implants mammaires on a new subject to write a book inspires by the history of Canadian Brian Zembic. In 2000, this man was made pose implants mammaires in order to win a bet with 100.000 dollars. However, contrary to the character of the episode, Zembic decided to keep its centres.

  • the first episode of season 3 ( Momma Boone , where one takes note of an obese patient who has " fusionné" with its settee after being last there several years, is inspired, him also, of actual facts. Gayle Laverne Grinds spent six years on its settee without never moving about it. Dirtiness, the sweat and excrements the six year old made amalgamate the skin of this woman with fabric of her settee. She died into 2004 with the urgencies, always on her settee, whereas the doctors tried to separate it surgically. The odor which emerged from it was so nauseous that the personnel opened into the Great Whole windows of the place and that everyone was to carry a mask and gloves, as well as a blouse. The man who lived with it, Hermann Thomas, dealt with it and brought to him to eat. However sometimes, even if it tried to make it rise, it never arrived there. It was not prosecuted, even if it were the subject of an investigation for negligence. The neighbors, in addition, discovered at the same time as the police services and of health which a woman lived in the house of Thomas.
