Nioro of the Sahel

Nioro of the Sahel is a city of the Mali of the first area to 241 km of Kayes, near the border Mauritanian. The city counts approximately 60.000 inhabitants.

History

The city was founded in 1240 by a slave named Beydari Tamboura, Diawando. The city became extensive with the arrival of migrants coming from high Senegal and Sudan. Will bambara massassi take it to XVIII century, there to found kingdom, before they are overcome by El Hadj Oumar Tall in 1854, which will make there build a large mosque in 1856, important a Muslim community comes to settle there. Nioro will become the stronghold of the Hamallisme.
