Nintendogs

Nintendogs is a Video game which one can classify in the category of animal simulations following the example Tamagotchi . The play gives the possibility to the player of being a Master of a dog with which it can interact thanks to the interfaces such as the stylet, the microphone and the touchscreen of the Nintendo DS in which it is an exclusiveness.

In the beginning, Nintendogs was planned for the GameCube but the project was related to the portable console. The play made its first official appearance with the E3 2004 in the form of a demonstration. During a time, the American version of the software was to be named Puppy Times .

Its exit in Japan, as that of Brain Training will propel the sales of its support on the archipelago, which knew rather average sales hitherto. Whereas a marketing for the US markets and Europeans was hitherto hypothetical, the extent of success convinces Nintendo to export the play.

After an exit more than satisfactory in the USA, the surprise will come from the European market, since the exit of the play combined with price drops of twenty €uros of the Nintendo DS as well as the availability of two new colors (blue and pink) will propel the sales of the latter on the old continent which will be multiplied by eight in a semaine.
The play is then its greater success which generates in particular a stock shortage record four month old in France. Today still, there is at least a version which appears in the twenty best sales of weekly video-ludic software since its launching.

Success is such as Nintendo then launches a fourth version of the play, Nintendogs: Dalmatien and his/her Friends , identical to the previous models with only one facility to resolve certain races difficult to obtain on the others opus. Europe will then see itself receiving the rare honor to accommodate in first this new version, on June 16th, 2006 whereas the USA them wait on October 16th of the same year and Japan never offered this one.

Thus in Europe, a Nintendo DS on two has at least a version of Nintendogs, that is to say an extremely rare ratio of 50%.

Criticisms

The play received very good criticisms, in May 2005, with a maximum score of 40/40 by the Japanese magazine Famitsu; reward that it divides with only 5 other play-videos in all the video-ludic history: The Legend off Zelda: Ocarina off Time , Drunk Calibur , Vagrant Story , The Legend off Zelda: The Wind Waker , and Final Fantasy XII .

It is the first play of DS to receive the price of the choice of the editor at Gamespot.

Gameplay

It is possible to adopt a pup among 6 races available in each cartouche of the play had (there are 4 different with each different pup). It is then necessary to raise the animal thanks to the various tools contained in the play. Thus, the Master will be able to nourish his dog, to draw up it, wash it, play with or to go to walk it according to a route chosen on the plan of the district. The console allows direct interactions between player and pup. Thus, the touchscreen makes it possible via the stylet to cherish its animal, of launching the freesbee or defining a way of walk. This exclusive function with DS replaces in fact the hand of the man in the play. With the microphone, it is possible for the Master to orally communicate with his pup to call it or congratulate it. The mode Wifi, called ouaf , makes it possible to the players to make meet their companions and to deal with them ensemble.
In addition to the care, plays and walk, the player can register his pup with 3 different competitions, each one divided into 5 levels of difficulty, good means of gaining money in order to better deal with his animal:

  • the throw of disc
  • the contest of obedience
  • the contest of agility

North-American and European editions

Inside each version, it is possible to free the various dogs by filling a multitude of objectives. Thanks to the mode ouaf (multijouor via the Wifi), it is also possible to acquire races resulting from other versions of the play by meeting the dogs of other players. Two other races are however déblocables in a more secret way. Thus the Jack Russell Terrier can be available while having found the delivers Jack Russel and the Dalmatien (exclusive with the US versions and A) seizing the helmet of firemen. It is possible to deal with three animals simultaneously, but L Hôtel OAU OAU makes it possible to store 5 others and to change dog of them constantly.

Objects

The objects are distributed under many categories:

  • Additional (collars, flowers, hats and glasses)
  • Care (food, drink and delicacies)
  • Music (keyboard, record player)

They are 200 on the whole and the majority are to be found with the wire of the play, in particular during the daily walks.

Sales

The play left to the Japan on April 21st 2005 before the the United States the August 22nd where it was past with nearly 250.000 specimens at the time of the first week of sale. With the E. - U., it would be nearly 15% of the owners of DS who bought Nintendogs . The play left the October 7th to France, and is a comparable success in Europe. Clones are same in preparation bound for the Game Boy Advance.

The play is besides the play more sold of its support, with in June 2007, 13,6 million of sold specimens whereas the park of the console, is to him of 43 million.
