Nino Rota (* December 3rd 1911 with Milan - † April 10th 1979 with Rome) was a Compositeur and leader Italy N, particularly famous for its compositions for the Cinéma (original music for approximately 170 films).
Biography
Nino Rota was born the December 3rd 1911 with Milan, in a family of musicians. He studied, as of his childhood, with the academy of Milan, under the direction of Ildebrando Pizzetti.
He acquired a certain fame as a type-setter and a leader as of his childhood, his first oratorio, the infanzia di San Giovanni Battista , for example having been represented in Milan and Paris in 1923, whereas he was only twelve years old.
In 1929, it integrated the academy of Santa Secilia, with Rome, where it studied under the direction of Alfredo Casella.
The leader Arturo Toscanini then advised to him to go to improve with Philadelphia (Pennsylvania). Rota obtained there a grant to the Curtis Institute, where he studied, of 1930 with 1932, under the direction of Fritz Reiner (direction of orchestra) and of Rosario Scalero (composition).
Of return to Milan, it continued its studies by studying the literature with the Université of Milan. He also wrote a thesis devoted to Gioseffo Zarlino, type-setter of the Renaissance.
He directed himself then towards a career of teaching of the music, starting from 1937, which he carried out of face with his work of type-setter, and who leads it to take the direction, in 1979, of the academy of Bari, which he preserved until his death.
Rota wrote its first partitions for the cinema as of 1933 for Treno popolare of Raffaelo Matarazzo, then for Zazà , 1944 film carried out by Renato Castellani. He also worked for Edgar G. Ulmer, Alberto Lattuada, Henry Cass, Luigi Comencini, Terence Young and Henri Verneuil. He became acquainted with the realizer Federico Fellini, whereas this one worked on its first film, Lo sceicco bianco (1952). It was the beginning of many collaborations between the realizer and the type-setter, as for Vitelloni , the strada , the dolce vita . The soundtrack of the film Eight and half for example is often quoted like one of the most outstanding elements of the film, which gives him a certain “coherence”. He is also the author of the music of the Satyricon , Amarcord and the Casanova de Fellini . Its last work with Fellini is Répétition of orchestra ( Prova of orchestrated ) in 1978, one of its chefs-d'oeuvre.
Among the most famous partitions of Nino Rota, also let us quote those of the Parrain and the Parrain II , carried out by Francis Ford Coppola, and of Romeo and Juliette , realized by Franco Zeffirelli or those of the Guépard or Rocco and his/her brothers of Luchino Visconti.
Apart from its work for the cinema, Nino Rota also composed ten operas, five ballets and much of other instrumental works, of which the Concerto Evening (for piano and orchestra) (1962).
He dies the April 10th 1979 with Rome, of a coronary Thrombose.
