Nino Manfredi (of its true name Saturnino Manfredi ) was a comic Acteur Italy N, as well as a Réalisateur. He was the last survivor of a generation of comic actors very popular in Italy and encensés like the incarnation of the Italian national genius for the art of the comedy: Ugo Tognazzi, Vittorio Gassman and Alberto Sordi, a fine team of actors Roman, tempting voluble and talented.

Nino Manfredi was born the March 22nd 1921 with Castro dei Volsci, in the Province of Frosinone in the area Latium, close to Rome and it is deceased the June 4th 2004 in Rome whereas it was in the Coma since July 2003 following a brain hemorrhage. The death of Alberto Sordi at almost 83 years in February 2003 had already caused much emotion in the peninsula.

He had married Erminia Ferrari, with which he had had three children. Before launching out in the Comedy, it had taken down a diploma of right, because his/her father, a modest man, swore only by the studies.

These finished studies, it was registered with the courses of the national Académie of dramatic arts, then integrated the theatrical troop of Vittorio Gassman and played prestigious Piccolo teatro with Milan and Rome. He also attended the scenes of the Music-hall, where he endorsed roles of actors, sang and became also lyric writer.

Its career of actor

This first relationship with the cinema was very modest, it doubled foreign actors and even Italian, and was in particular the Italian voice of Gerard Philippe. Its first two real roles goes back to 1949 in Monasterio di santa Chiara and in Torna has Napoli . The productions were financially poor and some tell that it had agreed to be satisfied with cover for any seal.

Considered to be too provincial, some beautiful roles escaped to him and its beginnings were dull. In 1955, thanks to the film in love, it was presented to the Cannes festival, it started to be known, and took down its first great role in Impiegato, a satire of which he was also the scenario writer.

In the Years 1960, benefitting from the revival of the Italian Cinema, it became one of the stars in sight, this golden age of the Italian comedy, and camped of the truculent, grotesque or even monstrous characters. Observer of the human life, one says that it took as a starting point real models to give birth to its characters. It appeared thus in some 90 films.

Among his best roles, one will retain:

  • the Gepetto tenderizing in the Adventures of Pinocchio, in 1971, role which was the real beginning of its celebrity.
  • the wretched one-eyed one in Dreadful, dirty and malicious , in 1976

For Ettore Scola, which worked several times with him, it represented: “ the small Italian catch, sympathetic nerve, not very intelligent, but astute (...), that which was born to be victim but which does not become it because of its interior richness.

Career as a realizer

Like realizer, Nino Manfredi, revealed a true gift, in particular in the satire anticlerical Miracle with Italian the which obtained in 1971 the Prix of the first work to the Cannes festival. However he said “ If I do not make more setting in cinematographic scene, it is because the trade of actor excites me much more.

Nino Manfredi dedicated a true passion with its trade of actor, the little story tells, that it posed as well questions about turnings, as one day an exceeded realizer had changed the panel “Silence one turns” by “Manfredi Silence”.

Its great regret is not to have never turned with Fellini, but he said that he was well too boring, not enough flexible to work with “ he maestro ”.
