Ninhursag

Ninhursag is a divinity sumérienne of the Ground and the Goddess-Mother. She is the sister of Enlil and the woman of Enki. With Enki, it had a girl, Ninsar.

Ninhursag means Maîtresse hills , but it has other names: Nintur ( Lady birth ), Ninmah ( Lady of August), Dingirmah, Aruru, and as a woman of Enki it was called Damgalnunna.

In Akkadien she was often called upon under the name of Bēlit-ili or Mama. As a woman of Ea (female counterpart of Enki), it was called Damkina. Its prestige decreased as that of Ishtar increased, but its aspect under Damkina, mother of Mardouk, supreme god of Babylon, held a place in the divine Pantheon for him.

According to mythology sumérienne, it is it which created the hero Enkidu starting from a piece of clay.
