Ningbo (宁波, Hanyu pinyin Níngbō, sometimes transcribed Ningpo ) is a port city located at the North-East of the province of the Zhejiang in China. It has the statute of under-provincial city. Located at the south of the Bay of Hangzhou, the port gives on the Eastern China Sea. The population exceeds the 5,5 million inhabitants. Ningbo is the economic center of the province of Zhejiang and attracts a considerable number of migrant worker of the other Chinese provinces, mainly of the Dongbei, Sichuan and Anhui.
A suspended bridge connecting Ningbo to Shanghai and spanning bay of Hangzhou is in the course of construction. Work is programmed until 2008. Once completed, it will be about the longest bridge ever built (36 km), making it possible to reduce half time of way between the two economic capital, avoiding the turning by the town of Hangzhou.
The mayor of Shanghai, Chen Liangyu, which belongs to the political office of the central committee of the party, there was born.
Ningbo is the seat of a prefecture of: 9397 km ². One speaks the dialect there about Ningbo of the group of the dialects of Taihu of the wu.
In the Years 1980, an airport and an exchange central office were built there.
In 2005, total GDP was of 244,9 billion Yuan S, and the GDP per capita of: 44156 yuans.
