Ninawa
The province of Ninawa is one of the 18 provinces of Iraq. The province owes its name with the ancient site of Ninive which is located on left bank of the Tigre. Ninive is taken in the agglomeration of Mûsul whose center is on Right Bank of the river.
In 1976, the province was called province of Mûsul and included also the province of Dahuk
Geography
The population of this province is made up of Arab S Sunnite S, of Kurdish S, Turkmène S and of Christians Araméen S. North and the East are more definitely Kurdish but the ethnic statistics are not known. The spoken language is a Kurdish dialect. A minority yézidite lives in the district of Al-Shîkhân.
Districts
The districts of Aqra and Al-Shikhan are currently under the authority of the self government of Kurdistan, Mûsul does not have any capacity on these two districts.
