Nikolai Kasatkin
Nikolai Kasatkin also called Holy Nikolai of Japan , (born Ioan Dimitrovich Kasatkin , 1836 - 1912) is a priest and a Saint of the Church orthodoxe Russian. He is regarded as the father of the Eastern orthodoxe church with the Japan. The orthodoxe cathedral of Tokyo (Tokyo Resurrection Cathedral), is called Nikolai-C in reference to the life that Nikolai passed in its enclosure.
Nikolai was born on August 1st 1836 (of the Russian calendar) in the prefecture from Smolensk, Dimitry Kasatkin, a Russian deacon of orthodoxy. His/her mother died whereas it was 5 years old. It climbs the religious level quickly: in 1857, it entered in Accadémie of theology of Saint-Pétersbourg. July 7th, 1860 (of the Russian calendar) he became monk and taken the name of Nikolai. July 12th of the same year, it is named deacon.
After its death in 1912, it was buries with the Tokyo Metropolitan Yanaka Cemetary close to Ueno.
He is the first saint of the Japanese orthodoxe Church. In 1970 it was canonized like “Equal to the apostles of Japan, Archevêque, St Nikolai”. Its annual festival takes place on February 16th.
