Nikola Aleksić , in Serb Cyrillic НиколаАлексић (born with Stari Bečej in 1808 - died with Arad on January 1st 1873), was a Serb painter .

Biography

Nikola Aleksić resulted from a family of artists. It was initiated with painting in the workshop of Arsen Teodorović with Novi Sad, where it remained until in 1826. It went then to Vienna, where it followed the courses of the Academy of 1828 to 1830, in particular those of Antique and historical painting. After the Academy, it accomplished a voyage three years in Italy, copying the old painters but also painting some portraits of Austrian officers of Serb origin. In 1834, Nikola Aleksić returned in Novi Sad then it settled with Sremski Karlovci, where it made the portrait of the métropolite Stratimirović. In 1837, it settled with Kikinda then opened a workshop with Temišvar in 1840. It settled finally with Arad, where it finishes its days.

Works

Nikola Aleksić was a prolific painter. It carried out a great number of Icône S, Fresque S and portraits.

By its style, it is representative of the period Biedermeier. In its portraits, it makes watch of an unquestionable talent of colourist.

His/her son Dušan and his small sons Stevan and Ivan was also painters.
