Nikolaïevsk-on-the Love (in Russian: Никола́евск-на-Аму́ре, Nikolaïevsk-Na-Amoure ) is a city of the Krai de Khabarovsk, in Russia and the administrative center of the Raïon of Nikolaïevski. The city is located on the Amour, to 80 km of its estuary, 977 km of Khabarovsk and to 582 km of Komsomolsk-on-the Love. Its population rose with: 28492 inhabitants with the census of 2002 against: 36296 with that of 1989.
A first Russian establishment, probably preceded by the Manchu village by Fouyori, was founded by Guennady Nevelskoï the August 13rd 1850 like Poste Nikolaïevski, in the honor of the Tsar Nicolas Ier of Russia. In 1856, the locality accepted municipal rights and was re-elected Nikolaïevsk-on-the Love, when the oblast of Primorsk was established. The admiral Vassili Zavoïko supervised the construction of a naval base with Nikolaïevsk.
The city developed like an important commercial port and remained the administrative center of this area until its transfer to Khabarovsk in 1880. Anton Tchékhov, which visited the city at the time of its voyage to the island Sakhaline, in 1880, was pilot of its decline. But the city was raised starting from 1896 thanks to the discovery of gold and the establishment of fisheries of Saumon S.
In 1913, Nikolaïevsk counted: 14400 inhabitants. But during the civil war, the population fell of: 15000 with: 2000 inhabitants. The capacity of the Soviets was essential in the city in 1922 after the departure of the Japanese troops.
Fishing was developed in the Twenties and naval construction during the Second world war.
