Nikolaï Korotkov
Nikolai Sergeievitch Korotkov (НиколайСергеевичКоротков), born on February 13rd 1874 with Koursk and died in 1920, was a Russian Médecin , pioneer of the vascular Chirurgie.
He invented a method to measure the blood Pression in 1905, which is today still at the base of the modern apparatuses, resting on the listening of the noises of blood called since " noises of Korotkoff".
Born in a family from merchants, it made its studies with Koursk then entered to the Medical college of Kharkov in 1893, and then to that of Moscow starting from 1895. It left in 1898 there, with the honors.
After having been internal in Moscow, it left to make its military service in 1900 in the Far East, and in particular in China at the time of the Révolte of the Boxers. Entered the the Red Cross, he traversed the Siberia, Ceylon, the Japan, and Singapore, before returning to Moscow. He was decorated about Holy-Anne for his assistance with the wounded soldiers. He launched out in research, and translated “Die Chirurgische Diagnostik” of Eduard Albert. He entered in 1903 to the military Academy of Medicine to Saint-Pétersbourg as assistant-surgeon. During the War Russo-Japanese woman, he was principal surgeon of one of the sections of the Red Cross, with Harbin, where he started to be interested in the vascular surgery.
Returned in Saint-Pétersbourg in April 1905, he worked on his thesis of doctorate, but acquired the celebrity for his presentation of his method of measurement of the blood pressure to the Academy of Imperial Medicine. He obtained the title of doctor in 1910. He became then surgeon in the gold mines of Lensk. During the First World War, it was affected with the services of assistance to the invalids with Tsarskoïe Selo.
After the Revolution of October, he became doctor as a chief of the Metchnikov Hospital of Leningrad until his death in 1920.
