Nikolaï Davydenko
Nikolaï Davydenko (НиколайДавыденко), is a Russian tennis player born the June 2nd 1981 with Severodonetsk (Ukraine). Professional since 1999, his best classification ATP is a 3e world place.
He in particular reached the semi-finals of Roland-Garros in 2005, inclining himself in five sets against Argentinian the Mariano Puerta which will be convinced of doping a few weeks later.
Very discrete player, his best asset is his speed of execution: camped on its basic line of short, it takes the ball very early and makes run its adversaries on a side then other. Diagram of play which is worth to him to be frequently compared with a " métronome". But most impressive in this player, it is his resistance, its faculty to connect the matches and the tournaments: he indeed forms part of the only players of signal 50 to play regularly more than 30 tournaments in one season! This remarkable constancy reveals it like new the " stakhanoviste" circuit (taking the changing of players like its compatriot Yevgeny Kafelnikov, or Czech Ivan Lendl).
Extremely of a great solidity of the bottom of short, its only faults are its play with the often approximate net, and perhaps sometimes its service. This last weakness in addition is largely compensated by a quality of exceptional revival, with particularly impressive statistics in 2006, for example (see 2006, the dedication ).
Nikolay is a general-purpose player. However, its favorite surface remains the beaten ground, where it unquestionably carried out its more beautiful matches and especially gained the most titles.
Season after season
2006, dedication
Revealed with the general public in 2005 by an accession in semi-final of Roland-Garros, Nikolaï, in 2006, is rewarded for its obstinacy. Remarkably regular and swift, able to take the ball terribly early and to return it indefinitely, it obliges the majority of its adversaries to kill father and mother to tear off a point to him. Bercy, with only 27 plays lost into five matches, it thus failed a unit of the more small number of plays yielded by a winner, Stefan Edberg, in 1990, which had benefitted from the abandonment of Boris Becker with the first set of the finale. Following its victory with the tournament of Paris-Bercy (decimated by the fixed prices of mark), Nikolaï is on the point of concluding, in Masters of Shanghai, the most beautiful season of its career. The Russian of Ukrainian origin, 25 years old, gained in the French capital its fifth title of the year to rise with the passage to the third world rank, his best classification ever reached. Here its impressions: " It is an end of fabulous season. I gained five tournaments, I gain my first Masters Series, I am from now on n°3 world, I dispute Masters and the final of the Coupe Davis. And I Marie before the Coupe Davis! It is incredible. That done many festivals to be celebrated. And far too many occasions of drinking! "In 2006, it already disputed 31 tournaments, against 16 for example with Roger Federer. Winner of 67 matches, the Russian would be however well wrong not to benefit from his more beautiful years to shine. If it still remains to him to cross last walk in the great events, like the liftings of the Large Slam or the Masters Cup where it did not succeed in with exceeding the hens, he showed at the time of this year that one could count on him to be one of the principal prosecutors of untouchable the n'°1 Suisse.
The season of the Tsar in figures: 5 titles (Pörtschach, Sopot, New Haven, Moscow, Bercy), 2 disputed finales (Estoril, Bastad), quarter of finalist to the Open of Australia, Roland-Garros, semi-finalist with the US Open.
It also encloses this year with its credit of the impressive statistics of return of service, since it finishes quite simply better retournor of circuit ATP, with 35% of plays of return gained in 94 matches (2nd, Spanish David Ferrer, is to 33% of gained plays, while however having played 30 matches of less)!
2007, a beginning of year mitigated, then surprising suspicions
After a semi-final and a eighth of finale to Doha and Sydney, Davydenko begins the year 2007 with a premature defeat in quarterfinals of the Open of Australia vis-a-vis the German Tommy Haas. Then 4 tournaments follow where it does not reach the final, which makes him lose its place of n°3 world to the profit of Andy Roddick. Its ratio after two months is of 12 victories for 6 defeats. In May 2007, Nikolaï Davydenko will reach the semi-final of the tournament of Rome: it will make a match of anthology against Rafael Nadal, king of the beaten ground, and will push it in extreme cases extreme of its talent and its forces (by doing this, this last gains its 76e victory of continuation over crushed brick). The gestural one purified, the precision and the swiftness of its leg movement, its extraordinary reverse neutralize the top spin missiles and curvatures of the Spanish left-handed person. This day there, Nikolaï dictates the play very early by taking the ball and strews the course with gaining blows. The extraordinary physique of Majorquin will enable him to take again the top in the last two plays of the last set. This defeat, 6/7 7/6 4/6, at the end of a match of an amazing intensity of more than 3:30, starts again its season. Rare thing, it was supported and applauded by the Italian public without stopping…The year finishes on a auquelle business the world of tennis did not expect. August 2nd, 2007, at the time of the Open of Sopot, in Poland, Nikolaï Davydenko is the legitimate favorite of the match against Argentinian the Martin Vassallo Arguello. Betfair, one of the companies of bets on line, is alerted by settings of an unusual amount (7 million dollars, ten times more than usually) on the victory of Vassallo-Arguello. While giving up at the beginning of the 3rd set because of a wound with the foot, Davydenko is involved in a media storm being able to destabilize it, while several players, whose Younès El Aynaoui and Arnaud Clément admits having been in the past the targets of attempts at corruption. October 25th, 2007, at the time of the Open of Saint-Pétersbourg 2007 in Russia, it is sanctioned, by the referee, for " miss combativité" at the time of the third set of its match lost against the Croat Marine Čilić but will be bleached by the ATP then
