Niklaus Rudolf von Wattenwyl

Niklaus Rudolf von Wattenwyl , born on January 3rd, 1760 and dead on August 10th, 1832, is a Political personality and a Militaire Suisse.

Biography

Descendant of a former Bernese family, it engages in a military career. In 1798, it orders the federal troops and stops the progression of the French Army with Neuenegg. This military success cannot however call into question the fall of the Ancien Mode in the canton.

In 1804, he is the author of a general military Règlement for the Swiss Confederation , which is adopted by the Diète on June 22nd. This payment tries to reorganize the Swiss army following the fall of the Swiss République and envisages the formation of seven Légion S for a total of: 15000 men. He is elected schultheiss (chief of the cantonal government) in 1803, 1804, 1806, 1808, 1810, 1812, 1814, 1815, 1817, 1819, 1821, 1823, 1825, 1827, 1829 and 1831, like chair federal Diète into 1804,1810,1817,1823 and 1829.

Last chief of the government of the Restoration, it ensures, at the time of his last mandate and with the assistance of Emanuel Friedrich von Fischer, the peaceful transition from the capacity of the preserving partisans of the restoration to the liberals. Its finished task, it resigns on October 20th, 1831.

During the 1805,1809 and 1813 national mobilizations, it is named Swiss General by the federal Diet.
