Nijinsky

Nijinsky (1967-1992) is a racehorse English Pur-sang resulting from the crossing of Northern Dancer and Flaming Page. Its exact name is Nijinsky II, and he is regarded as one of the best racehorses of the 20th century.

Born in Canada with Windfields Farm, stud farm of E.P. Taylor celebrates it where was born also his/her father Northern Dancer, Nijinsky was bought 84000 $ at the time of the annual sale of the stud farm by the industrialist Charles W. Engelhard Jr, the man who inspired the character of Goldfinger in the film éponyme. It was sent in Ireland, in Ballydoyle, in the large trainer Vincent O' Brien.

Career of races

Nijinsky quickly revealed a potential out of the commun run. At two years, he was crowned better foal in England and Ireland, gaining in particular the Dewhurst Stakes.

At three years, in 1970, it became the 15th horse of the history to allocate the triple crown British: 2000 Guineas Stakes (1600m), Derby of Epsom (2400m) and Light St Stakes (2900m), where it overcame in spite of physical concern. Nobody had carried out this exploit any more since Bahram in 1935, nobody did not republish it since.

It was not satisfied with this performance and became double " derby winner" by gaining the Derby of Ireland. During the summer, Nijinsky made main of its elder in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes, proving that it did not have any rival with his measurement. Always unconquered, it was presented logically in the Prix of the Triumphal arch to crown an absolutely exceptional career. Gone up like always by Ballasting Piggott, it was naturally the favorite grandissime. However, at the end of the straight line of the Hippodrome of Longchamp, " the surprise of the siècle" had a presentiment of the " waited; horse of the siècle". Nijinsky was preceded of a short head by Sassafrás, best the 3 French years, assembled by Yves Saint Martin's day. One lost oneself in conjectures to explain similar feeling: Lester had Piggott been too sure of him? Had the horse sufficiently recovered its victory in testing Light St Stakes? Nijinsky reappeared last once in competition, in the Champion Stakes, and it pareillement was pareillement beaten, this time by Lorenzaccio. This new disappointment was explained better: the horse had shown nervousness before the race, and had left impulse during its heating.

The career of races of that which had to dispute with Sea Bird the semi-official title of " horse of the siècle" , and which would have done it without its Parisian defeat, was finished. Timeform curiously allotted to him a Rating low of 138.

With the stud farm

Nijinsky was syndicated for a price record and was withdrawn in the United States, taking its districts with the stud farm of Clairbone Farms, with Paris, in Kentucky, where it remained until its death in 1992. It rests there from now on. In good wire of Northern Dancer, it was going quickly to be affirmed like a reproducer of foreground. He is the father of 155 " stakes winners" (winners of important races), among which three prizes winner of the Derby of Epsom: Golden delicious Fleece , Shahrastani and Lammtarra, winner also of the Price of the Triumphal arch. In Europe as in the United States, it generated many champions: Shadeed , Royal Academy , Green Dancer , Sky Classic , Ferdinand or Seattle Dancer , which in 1985 expensive became the Yearling of the world, making post 13,1 million dollars.

It was Chief candidate of the fathers of mothers in North America in 1993 and 1994.
