Nihilanth

Nihilanth is a character of the Série of video game Half-Life . It is the final Boss first Half-Life .

History

Nihilanth is the leading one of Xen and the entity which controls the invasion of the Research center of Black Mesa. It silently planes in large a Caverne several tens of meters in height from where it orders the forces of Xen, preparing with the opening of a dimensional fault between Xen and the Ground to allow its creatures to attack.

In the play, Gordon Freeman is sent on Xen to eliminate Nihilanth because it is the only force which maintains the fault dimensional open since the satellite was launched since the Sector Lambda de Black Mesa to transfer resonance in chain. It seems nevertheless that the death of Nihilanth would have started a storm of gate at the origin of the Guerre the Seven Hour old.

Presentation

Physically, Nihilanth resembles gigantic a human Fœtus with an enormous disproportionate head compared to the remainder of the body. Contrary to imposing sound Brain, its Jambe S appears tiny, even vestigiales or amputated. The creature sits on a broad mechanical stand which seems to allow him of léviter. Like the other intelligent species of Xen, Nihilanth has a third Appendice in the middle of its Poitrine. Its arm is long and ends in large Main S with the disproportionate Doigt S, its Poignet S carry metal bracelets which resemble those carried by Vortigaunts - supporting the assumption that Nihilanth is only the slave of a higher force (probably the Cartel). What resembles surgical scars on its chest is a subject of debate between the players.

Nihilanth attacks by sending balls of energy, this one can be of two types: a gust of blue electric balls which causes serious damage, and a slow green ball (similar to the gates of teleportation studied in the Research center of Black Mesa) which moves that which is reached at other places of its den populated by other monsters of Xen. Nihilanth also employs this technique for téléporter of Vortigaunts and other creatures of Xen in its principal part to help it to fight against the intruders. A series of gilded balls of energy turn around the head of Nihilanth and make it insensitive to any attack. However, of the crystals specialized in the high part of the room fill the balls as soon as they weaken. If an invader manages to destroy these crystals and to inflict sufficient damage to the body of Nihilanth, the cranium of this one opens like a flower revealing a brain as brilliance as vulnerable. It then does not remain any more but to inflict sufficient damage to its brain to destroy Nihilanth.

Anecdotes

  • the crystals protecting Nihilanth have a composition identical to the crystal sample that Freeman sends in the spectrometer anti-mass and who starts resonance in chain. In Half-Life: Blue Shift , Barney Calhoun must align it localized on Xen, which uses an of the same crystal cuts with the one of the room of Nihilanth. Many small similar crystals can be seen in the laboratory of Eli Vance in Half-Life 2 , placed in a machine simulating a small resonance in chain called Rotato.

  • the official guide Raising the Bar indicates that the name of “Nihilanth” comes from Nihilisme (of Latin Nihil , nothing), the suffix - anth is a reference to the flower and the way in which its cranium opens like a flower.
